tire help

What’s the biggest/widest tire I can put on a stock 98 civic si coup. Basically I have 205/ 70/14 tires. The rims of course are 14nes I just don’t know what numbers I need to keep down to stop the tire from rubbing on anything.

PS. I heard you want skinner tires for winter driving will these be ok

Use the search function my friend - you will be amazed what you get:thumbup:

I’m pretty f**king amazed alright, amazed that I can’t find squat that’s going to help me. I’ve tried the phrases “tire sizing” & “tire fitment” but nothing that leads me to an answer.

Help me atleast look for the right information!!

Ha ha, that was no altitude that was my frustration showing through with my inability to perform a relevant search as well as the numerous amounts of threads that I read through that were of no use

Thanks though!!

Refine your search - use terms such as: correct offset, rim width..

You have stock rims. 196/65/14 is base.

Look for a tire size calculator on the web.

There....that was easy.

bbarbulo 25-Oct-2004 03:26 PM

what fits is a 185/65/14...

what you should have is a 205/55/14, 205/50/15, 205/45/16, 205/40/17, 195/60/14, 195/55/15, 195/50/16, 185/60/15, 175/70/14, 175/65/15

the thinner the tire, the better it is in the winter esp for light cars like Civics you'd be best with a 175 or 185 tire on a 14 inch rim.

as for the widest tire, I've had some 205s rub only very slightly, so 205 is the widest I'd ever go...

for rims, you need rims with an offset of 38-42 mm, depending on the drop, tire, and rim width.

Thank you gentlemen, that’s a big help and a start to my education on tires.

PS. I know I looked at the calculators on the web but they always seem to just give you how much your speedo is going to be off

That is very important. Overall wheel diameter has direct effect on your performance.

even more importantly, overall wheel diameter affect how the tire fits in the wheelwell.
