Tire Balance + Alignment Problem

Man, it's frustrating.

When I took my car in for a major repair at Sisley Honda, the tires seem to be out of balance. I get a major viberation from the steering wheel from 90km/h - 130km/h. So I took it to a local Active Green + Ross, paid $40, and had them try to balance it. I went there because they did a great job about 4 months ago.

Well, they tried TWICE, but failed. The first time they did it, the viberation actually got WORSE. Now, it's still shaking. Is it that difficult to balance 17in rims? I asked the mech how fast the thingie spins and he said about 70-80km/h. If this is true, how's he supposed to know if it's good after 100km/h?

Does anyone know of a GOOD balancing shop? A place that has some experience in aftermarket rims & tires...

Also, Active Green + Ross and a few other shops refused to do alignment on my car, simply because of 17" rims. They said their machines would scratch the **** out of them. I know a lot of auto manufactuers are churning out cars with OEM 17's, so where they heck do they go for alignment??

Very frustrated.. I just want my can fixed back to normal. Please help recommand a shpo if you could. Thanks in advance.

for an alignment try a VW dealership. the newer cars come w/17s so they can't give you the run around. call for a price first. try a few locations. or maybe Nissan because the Spec-Vs have 17s too

The rims may be... defective. I've heard similar stories with rims that's just impossible to balance. The that friend of mine returned his rims for another set and all problems went away. Advan (his rim brand) said that sometimes a rim can be unbalanced on multiple vectors and are very hard to correct (pretty much guessing work).

So, what you may want to do is swap the front and the back rims, see if the vibration goes away. If so, then live with it, else maybe try to get them swapped.

PS: Most Balancing machines are big enough to do truck rims, so they can do 17's no problem. They just don't want to spend the time balancing 17s and not having them balanced properly and get tones of complaints. Many cheaper brands have imbalances on multiple vectors.
