Tire Advice

Hi there

I still have the OEM tires on my 2000 Civic SI - the crappy *** Firestone.
Anyways, I'm going to replace them this week...but I'm not sure which All-Season tires to go for? Either the Yokohama or Kumho's.
Just looking for some Standard Touring All Season. Roughly willing to spend around $400 - $500.

I'm not familiar with tires so your opinions are appreciated.

Plus, where's a good place to get them and installed???

Thanks a lot

I'd recommend Yoks over Khumos better wet weather performance...

I know they're not on your list, but I've been running Toyo Spectrum all-seasons in rain and snow, and have nothing but good things to say about them. On top of that, they're pretty cheap.... I went to Tirecraft in Concord. Good luck with your purchase...choosing tires are like choosing your own shoes.

it's really a matter of what matters most to you? rain, snow, or summer performance... and no you can't choose all three really... unless you try the Good Year assurance, or the new BFG tires... Ultra Grip or something like that?? I dunno... really depends on how you drive, and if you drive hard, you need to have dedicated rims/tires for each season.

I've used the Michelin X-Ones in the past and I didn't have any complaints about them. They were pretty good in the snow and rain and didn't handle too bad on dry pavement either. As bbarbulo mentioned, if you're a more serious driver, having dedicated wheels/tires for the summer/winter might be a better idea. But, if you just need a decent set of tires to get around all-year long, then a good quality set of all-seasons should do you fine.

Michelin doen't make the X-Ones anymore, but they were replaced with the HydroEdge. They get great reviews from tirerack.com. You can browse their site to compare different tires.

I will be putting Hydro-Edge tires on my fiancee's Civic once the OEM's are dead.
Good choice, and apparently they do allright in the snow too.
Costco sells them as well.

Firstly, you'll notice a diffence right away as soon as you change them, the stock tires suck, also a thing to remember with tires, you do get what you pay for...and the Hydroedge or Goodyear Assurance will get my vote for an all-season

I also had the Xones last year, good tire for an all season, but I didnt like them too much in the winter, but the Hydroedge looks more refined than the Xone, which has been discontiued....not sure how they handle in the snow.

The stock tires on my civic are 195/55/15

But I'm considering of getting the Yoko Avid Touring (all season) but they don't come in that size. I've called a few places and they said my tire size is not that common and they only have the Yoko T4's.

But if there's alternative sizes that I could get...that would be great!! I've heard 195/50/15 would be the closet, any others??

Thx

if your comparing the same tire and different sizes, it gets a little cheaper as the sidewall increases...

example...195/55/15 -> 195/60/15

195/50/15 would be me street performance oriented...as the 195/60/15 would be more comfort/luxury

I think she wanted an all-season.
