tips for installing springs
i'm wondering if there is any tips on getting the old springs out of that assembly they are in... dont know what thats called... i've heard you can just cut the old springs then there will be no pressure from the springs and its easy... i'm not terribly concerned about keeping my old springs either...
thanks in advance |
air tools
zip zip and the top hat comes off and spring is out. |
this top hat is under pressure of the spring no?? so what precautions should i take there??

Trust me, I've seen loudsubz remove springs using a tire and a wall......AT FIRST I was scared shitless, I thought he was NUTS.....but when the struts are off the car, they expand to their highest setting because there's no longer any wieght pushing down on them.
The springs only jumps another 1-2 inches when you release the top nut. The first strut will ussually catch you off gaurd. The rest should be fine. If in doubt, get Matt to do it. I went to his house to pick up something......when I got there, he had just started on a car.....so I stayed and watched. Good learning experience. :nods: |
ok well matt... how much would you want for this job?? or maybe we could like do some sort of post dated payment options?? maybe i'll just send you a pm

Use a spring compressor man that's what I would do.
that AND air tools unless you want a workout! |
You don't need a spring compresor for most Civic struts. They only move an extra inch or 2 when released.
I wouldn't use this procedure for a GM or Ford suspension though. |
If you want to be sure, go get a compressor from crappy tire, you put a deposit on the tool and get it all back when you return it. I got one, easy to do.
Fronts == Cake! Rears == hard, when the LCA bolts won't budge. |
i helped my friend get some of those rear bolts out... and there were not fun... i have a funny feeling mine wont come out easy either :(

lol yeh civic springs dont shoot to far, specially if you have a tire or soemthing to brace it when you take them off, and wrap the end in a towel so you dont loose the nice and washer.
as for the LCA, yes most times even on newer cars there fubared, but you can still get them off from the frame and brake assembly nuts, thats what I do most times. If you wana get new shocks as well your looking to cut that damn bushing off and press in a new one etc. |
loudsubz saves the day !!!
