timing belt question

timing belt question

Is there a way to inspect my timing belt to see if its worn out without taking apart the engine??

Take off the shroud that covers the belt area.

Look for cracks on the belt..

damn..i wish i knew what a "shroud" was..
my car has 173000kms.. i bought it at 169000 without knowing if the belt has been changed

It's the plastic cover that covers the timing belt. It's to the right of the oil cap on the valvecover. There *should* be an inspection hole there too, with like a rubber insert you can take a peek through. Prolly a good idea to do it now and do the water pump too.

Naw, you can't tell while it is on the car.
The cracks will happen between the ribs, on the inside.
Just play it safe and replace it now. When one of those break it can really ruin your day.

1.see if there is a crack on the timing belt
2.is the timing belt have large sound
3.c if the plastic turns to hard plastic
