Timing belt doesn't stay on.....
Hello guys.
Its about my 2.2 4cylinder Auto tarnsmission Cavalier agian....:fustrated
So I changed the Torque converter solenoid inside the transmission and that didn't cure the stalling problem. (Car used to "search" at ideal and then stall...)
Then I took it to the dealer and they found out the head gasket was bad, Coolant was leaking inside the cylinders and outside the block and thats what made it stall as they said. Not agreeing to pay a $1000 repair bill, I ripped off the cylinder-head myself, and replaced the gasket. Then I put it back on, torque wrenched it to spec, and put back on the power steering pump, Intake and exhuast manifold (with new gaskets of course), downpipe, Throttle body, Alternator, and another whole bunch crap.
The engine fires up and works beautifully (eventhough my dad doubted it would even start!), but the problem is that the timing belt wants to come-off !!
It goes around the crank pully and A/C, goes around couple tension pullies, goes around Power steering pump, and then ties down by the Alternator. However, from visual insection, I can tell the Alternator pully isn't in-line with the PS pump pully, resualting the belt to go over lap the rim of the PS pully.... So basically, the alternator pully seems to be at a little angel, in respect to that of the Power steering. So they don't line up with each other and the alt tries to pull the belt off the power steering pully!
I installed the Alt as best as possibble, took it off and reinstaled another 3 times, but same thing happens. I even tried to balance the alt and eliminate the visual sitting angle by putting washers in between the alt and the holding bracket. That doesn't help either.
Does anybody know whats wrong with the alt that wants to pull the belt off the PS pump pully....?
Your comments are greatly appreciated.

That is not the timing belt, the timing belt is under the covers, the serpentine belt sounds like the one you are discribing, there is probably a washer or spacer missing from the unit that is not sitting square on the engine. Honda civics dont use this sytem but I work on all makes and if it was ok before somthing is missing

Oh yes, my mistake. This isn't the timing belt, but as you guys said, its the serpentine belt. The engine doesn't use the OHC configuration....
However, I don't seem to be able to detect the problem with the sitting position....
Man I have to get this car back on the road. Having done a major repair like that, its frustrating to see a stupid belt teasing me off like this... You guys have any suggestions ...?

You didn't install something correctly. Take a ruler and line up all the things that are on the serp belt, the one that is off line is the offending accessory. Remove it, get your **** together and install it right
Nice work with the head gasket there bro! I remember my first time doing that work. Scary!!
