Timing belt?

Hey guys, my friend has a hyundai accent, and was told she needs to change her timing belt. My question is approx how much is it to change a belt? She was quoted approx $270.00 to replace it. Doesn't that sound ridiculous?

I know hyundai is not Honda, but it's still import, I'm guessing it should be the same idea right?

i dont think its ridiculous, might be on the high side, i am not sure how hard it is in a hyundai.

$270 seems really cheap to change the timing belt (should do water pump at the same time)

$270 for labour and parts is what I would expect to pay.. as B said.. water pump should be done while they're in there also.

hyundai doesnt recommend changing the water pump dunno why

oh for real? I just thought it may seem like alot because my friend doesn't know anything about cars, and the auto industry luvs taking advantage of females, or guys who don't know jack..... but if you guys think that's an average price.....

That sounds like a steal. Ususally timing belt and waterpump is some where around $500.

Im trying to learn how to do it my self since my car has nearly 300,000km.
