Timing belt

ok so i got a price on doin the timing belt on a honda civic 99 sir...so he asked me if i wanted an OEM timing belt or after market...does it actually make a difference? cuz the after market is a lot cheaper......

OEM is the way to go. Probably a longer warranty and for SURE it won't give you any problems. on a 99 SIR, I'd go OEM...

well then explain why my OEM belt broke on my b16 after only 35,000kms and not even 2 years?....no warranty on that, trust me.

I'll personally NEVER use another honda timing belt on my car....but thats just me.

I've used countless aftermarket timing belts (dayco, roulunds, etc etc) on lots of engines both d and b-series without any problems. I've seen more than one honda belt brake, and not from improper installation or too much deflection.

I just put a GoodYear Gatorback timing belt on. Got a good deal on it, so I figured try it out :)

Yeah timing belts are not something manufacturers cheap out on... so it's safe to get a good reputable aftermarket one like Goodyear or Dayco or Contitech.

I some how agree,
but I still don't understand, why Original HONDA timing BELT will break that easily.....
I a good car manufacture company should never let this happened, or at least, rarely...

ummmm I've never seen a Honda timing belt break. I plan to use an OEM belt on my EJ6. The ED3 is old and I don't think it's gonna last the entire life of another OEM belt, that's why I went aftermarket.

ya i agree, i've known many people that have used aftermarket timing belts and had no problems. The thing you got to watch is the guy putting it on ;)

Maybe i got a defective belt or something, who knows. But i'm pretty sure the reason the other OEM belts that i've seen brake is b/c they were a little past their prime and due for replacement.
