Time for new headers??? *PICS*
Sup folks
I decided to take my heat shield off my headers today and to my surprise this is what i find. No wonder my check lights been 'on' saying exhaust leak for the longest time. Altech couldn't find it either. So what you guys suggest? Replace it or the hell w/ it? If you say replace it, should I go w/ stock or aftermarket? and let me know why you advise what you do. http://fuzzyxboy.homestead.com/files...r/Dsc00418.jpg http://fuzzyxboy.homestead.com/files...r/Dsc00419.jpg http://fuzzyxboy.homestead.com/files...r/Dsc00420.jpg Thanks, David |
is you car an ex? That looks like the typical civic sedan ex problem, as far as I know the reason that the manifolds on those cars always crack is because the cat is so close that to much heat is built up. Anyway with that said I would definatley recommend a quality aftermarket header for a little better performance and it should still be alot cheaper then the oem unit and wont crack in a few more years down the road. The only thing is that you may run into problems trying to find an aftermarket header available to work with that motor due to the location of the stock cat. You can probably get a down pipe from another civic and just run the cat in the standard location (under the car after the downpipe), of course that will cost more due to the price of the cat + header + downpipe but in the long run if you look around for the best prices then you still shouldnt pay any more then the oem honda replacement.

BTW ebay is your friend!

I "think" Honda had a recall on those because of the cracking. Check with them. I'm sure you could easily find a used one. I got one for my Y8 for $40.
Aftermarket could be an expensive pain just because of the location of the cat. |

i got mine replaced for free at honda... goodwill warrenty

I purchased my car used and privately so I guess I don't have any warranty. I'm thinking of just patching it up w/ some aluminum tape, ghetto but think it will work??? I don't think this engine is worth investing that much money in to. Best alternative I can think of is putting in the D16Y8 exhaust system in. |
my old Si had that happen :notfair: just buy some after market ones for like $200
|
Couldn't you hear it sputter when you gave the car a bit of gas?
Anyways, If you want to redo your entire exhaust, then get a performance header and cat and then a cat back for an Si (or a muffler w/ custom piping) |

Its a recall:goof: |
hey bro what model year is ur civic from 96 up to 2000 civic with a d16y7 engine is covered under warranty up to 130 or 160,000 kilometers or 8 years. consult ur honda dealer. good luck
|
I bought a Ractive header which included the downpipe for about $300.
Installation was pretty casual. no need to take it to a shop. |
What year how man km's on your civic?
There's a warranty extension on those manifold/converters; 8yr/130,000km's (160km's on some) If you're within that any Honda dealership can replace it under warranty if you're still covered; as well mention the engine light; If the cracked manifold caused a primay 02 code, it'll be replaced w/the maifold. |
I will ask a honda dealership about it.
My car currently has 177,000km. |
Just call Honda Canada and give your VIN to see if you qualify for the exteneded waranty.
|
Yeah my buddy had his done on a recall...his was a 98...same thing...as an fyi...I have a stock d16y8 manifold if it will work for ya....
VIPER |
Altech couldn't find the problem? What are they blind? I can't believe they even charge ppl to work on their cars they are so incompetent.
Anyways, yeah ebay or salvage yards will have the goodies for you if Honda won't cover it (cuz the car is kinda high mileage) |
Search for a JDM manifold and downpipe and use an aftermarket cat. One would think these motor importers would have a usable set for a reasonable price.
