when im driving i hear this noise from the front pass side, as i go faster it gets faster.... its not an axle clunk, just a tick tick tick. I'm thinking its a pad retainer or the pad wear indicator. But I've also got a torn inner cv boot on that axle, and im basically swapping the entire suspension out in a weeks time... but I'm just curious, my talon did the same thing and the noise went away. I already took the wheel off and saw nothing out of the ordinary.

what could it be?

THIS WILL SOUND FUNNY BUT CHECK FOR STONES IN THE TIRE TREAD. woah caps sorry.

does it matter what speed you're going at? or does this sound happen regardless

The sound is always there, regardless of speed. I think its something gay, I can't wait to swap out these ****ing gay civic brakes.

Yet to be in a talon that didn't make mysterious noises to be honest with you.

As for your tick, the CV joint could be the culprit depending on how long the boot has been torn.

If your swapping everything out in a weeks time, I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as the brakes are good until then.

Also check for stones around the dust sheld inside the rotor(it's unreal how they get there) as well as the clearance between the dust shield and rotor itself. Best of luck.

go with your instinct and check your pads. you can bend the little metal squeeler so it dosen't make noise, if it still does it, then try looking at other areas.

Yeha, Im just going to leave it until I do the brake swap. Im changing a rear wheel hub after my soccer tourny tonight.

the little metal squeeler as you call it is called a wear indicator and guess what it tells you? it tells you when your pads are worn out and that you need new ones. DONT bend it back..get new pads if that is whats rubbing.

Doesnt the wear indicator cause a loud metal on metal sound when the pads are worn?

yes usually, but if its just started its like a on off on off on off really fast. dosen't usually just go full scrape sound. probably not them but its quick to check and see, then atleast you know. while your checking have a better look around with the tire off too at the axle.

the inner boot tranny side has a 1/4"tear and has had it for some time now. I've got a new axle, upper control arms, lower balljoints, spindle and bushings ready to go in. This car better drive as smooth as butter once im done.

after changing a rear hub i took 5min and ripped the brakes apart, lubed everything up good, no more noise.

Weird huh!

But for some reason the new (free) rear bearing still sounds busted, oh well..... hopefully a brake swap will fix that up good.
