Throttle Lag Problem

hey guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem: i have a 92 hatch VX (D15Z1) Vtec-e, and im experiencing throttle lag. ALL tuneups have been done, valves, all filters, injectors are cleaned, new plugs, wires, distributor, etc....engine has 180k, and doesnt burn oil.

basically when im in gear, and hit the throttle, it takes the car a good 2 to 3 seconds before i actually feel the engine accelerating.
i have also checked my throtle cable, and it's not getting stuck or anything.

any other suggestions??

VTEC-E

Its for efficieny, not performance.

VTEC-E is a twist on the regular VTEC mechanism. Whereas VTEC's purpose can be more or less summarized as: extracting high RPM performance while maintaining smooth low RPM operation, VTEC-E can be summarized as: allow extremely lean fuel-air mixture at low RPMs in order to increase fuel economy. In other words, VTEC technology is used to optimize different ends of the RPM range in the two different implementations

Is the throttle cable operated? If so is the cable tight? That could cause extra lag.

i'd suspect its the code written on the engine that is at fault here
