throttle body swaps

do any other bigger throttle bodies fit on a d series inakte manifold, i mean like off a b series or something, don't feel like forking out 400 bucks for an after market one

2nd gen B16's are 60mm, B18B is 58mm (i think) ITR B18C5 is 62mm. You can use any of the b-series t/b on a d-series intake manifold. Its a cheap easy upgrade. But if you get a bigger t/b you need to make sure to port match the plenum on ur intake manifold....what's the point of having a 60mm t/b when the opening on the IM is 56mm?

usually how much to "port match" the i/m???
and how much do a b16 or b18c5 t/b go for if i can find one? i dun wanna get rip off... datz it...

H22 type S throttle body is the biggest you can fit, but the B series ones do just dandy

well your best bet would be to get yourself a d16z6 or d16y8 intake manfiold and a die grinder. The manifold needs to be off the engine to do this b/c you need to get all of the shavings out of the manifold before installing on the engine.
Just get the t/b gasket for which ever t/b you use (say you get a 2nd gen b16 then get a t/b gasket for a 95 del sol vtec) and put it on the manifold, where you need to die grind away will be visible through the gasket. Then take compressed air and blow the shavings out of the manifold.

well i have a obx intake manifold i just got says it takes up to a 60mm throttle body, so i guess type r is no good, i'll need the coresponding gasket of which ever throttle body i choose right ??

same size as every other B-series as far as I know. Just buy it.

bbarbulo, are you going to do a write up for all of us in need of a proper manifold?
