For those who A/F gauge?
im just curious to why people have a A/F gauge?????
what good does it do on a Car if your car aint boosted????? this is a discussion... not a rant on anyone... b/c i had them on my Neon. so i thought id raise it up... a A/F gauge would be necessary when u have turbo IMO..... since u gotta monitor your AIR and Fuel..... too lean on Fuel can make your car detonate.... On a car boosted... the SIR/FUEL works like its supposed to and not running back and forth.... only at idle of course... so why??? would u throw it on a car??? is it worth it on a heavy modded N/A vehicle??? so lets start the discusiion??? |
it's best to have it on any vehicle that had been modified and have to be tuned with the correct fuel settings coz it tells you if the car is running lean or rich at WOT

Personally I think air/fuel gauges are just dancing lights though they can help a bit. On a boost car and EGT gauge is much more useful.

Unless you're going to pay someone else to tune your piggyback fuel controller, a high quality A/F gauge is a reasonable alternative to a wideband O2 sensor. Particularly since you're only concerned with a perfect stoich ratio when tuning.

my only beef with EGT is that really, i have no clue what the temperature SHOULD be.. and it varies too much based on where the sensor is. but I agree, it's much more readable, thus useful.

i think its sjut another useful guage for u to monitor your motor with, i see the point in this discussion but also i think this discussion could be said about alot of other guages as well, like y have a batt guage or oil pressure guage?..they all do the same thing, inform u of whats going on in your engine.

well, I've got one on mine...but, according to it's readings, when I had the turbo in it I might have cooked the O2 sensor cause it jumps around like a fairy on fire. it's useful to monitor engine performance verses fuel consumption. If tuned corrected with the help of an a/f guage, you can get the most fuel mileage out of the engine or on the flipside, adjust fuel consumption and power depending on the mods that you've done to your engine.

reagular A/F gauges are just to determine the load that your engine is seeing... if you have a V-AFC it tells you how far off the settings are. Unfortunately, the sensor can't tell what part of rich or lean it's in, so it's pretty much garbage!! It's best to get a AEM UEGO or other wideband lambda sensor.

I still have mine on right now (autometer). I bought it because i needed to know if i was running rich/lean when I had zex. I believe it's only useful for wot.
However, last year, my catalytic conv died. It's my a/f gauge that indicated that I was having fuel problems (my car would run rich from time to time and the gauge woul light up solid green). This i would never have known if i didn't have the gauge. If you want a good gauge, look at DEFI. |
Ditto! My gauge was almost constantly sitting on green when I had trouble with my O2 sensor. My gas mileage was ****ty! Once the problem was cleared up, the colours are dancing back and forth again and my gas mileage improved.
