Think Trannys Fooked

I'm getting ready to do a swap and was wondering if anyone could tell me if my tranny was on the way out. Here is what it does...with the clutch disenguaged (pedal out) it makes like a whinning sorta grinding noise, however, as soon as I enguage the clutch (pedal in) it shuts up. I've never had problems selecting gears or anything like that so you tell me will she hold up or is she dyin'? BTW it has a new clutch including pilot and throw out bearings just to rule that out and it did it before I changed the clutch as well...please help.

well it's the throw out bearing that is making the noise....probobly adjusted wrong which caused it to go out....probobly a non contact that was making contact causing wear.....

So, if when I step on the gas, it makes this funny noise, sorta like a grinding noise, it could be this?

I just put a Si tranny in my EF this weekend, and I think I remember noticing that the pressure plate on the Si engine was grooved where the throwout bearing was..... **HITS HAMMER ON HEAD** for not replacing it.

BOND007, did you determine cause of failure?? Mine is starting to get whiny too... I think Honda fuct up. Mine is only slightly noticable, if I wasn't me, I wouldn't even notice haha

That's okay... new clutch sometime soon anyways.

It was 100% the input shaft bearing that failed or was failing the bearings get dents inthem and then they don't roll properly and that caused the vibration

you mean the ball bearings were not properly hardened. wonder who the manufacturer of the bearing was

I'm prolly gonna source a Timken or SKF bearing

No clue if they were properly hardened ...when looking at the bearing .looked okay ... When rolling them around you could hear and feel the grinding

I replaced the throwout bearing...what's the input shaft bearing? It's F**KING annoying but my question still remains is the tranny ok or is it on it's way out?

input shaft bearing is inside the tranny and needs to be taken apart to be replaced
