Temperature Gauge Help
Hey everyone,
I have a question regarding my temperature guage. The gauge will not move from above the C. This leads me to believe that the thermostat is stuck open. I just had an engine swap. Has anyone else had this problem before? Is it just a simple change of the thermostat? Or could my ECT be faulty? any help would be great. Also, my rad fan doesnt seem to be turning on (maybe because of the cold), and the upper rad hose is hot, while the lower one is cold...
Thanks

after i swapped my motor, that happened to me too...just change the thermostat, most of you would say "go for OEM", but they are like 35 bucks, i got mine aftermarket for about 8 bucks, and it worked fine so far=)

so i got a new thermostat, and the temp gauge is working fine thanks to a new sensor...now....but for some reason the lower rad hose is still cold!?! can somebody please help me? car runs fine...but the thermostat still does not seem to be opening up....
could it be the waterpump? thermoswitch? i have absolutely no idea...

how long did you drive it for? it takes awhile the for thermo to completely open up.
ex. it took my '96 Si almost 10 mins city + 10 mins highway driving to finally warm up.
the temp gauge is in the closed loop with the block so it may say it's getting warm but that doesn't mean the thermostat is ready to open.
drive around for a bit, when ti gets to operating temp then poke your head underneath the hood and check it out.
and if your thermostat wasn't working at all your engine would overheat.

first check ur coolant temp sensor.....put a ohm meter on it....check the resistance at room temp. than get a cup of hot water n dip the temp sensor in it....as temp increase the resistance should change....if it stays the same than u need a new temp sensor. also check ur thermostat. after replacing them open ur rad cap n let the car run until the rad fan comes on to bleed all the air out of ur system. fill coolant to right temp, n u should b good to go
