Temperature Gauge

Hey Guys,

I got a JDM D15b vtec swap few weeks ago and i have noticed that the engines seems to stay much cooler than my old engine, i mean it usually sits around the the line just above C, my old engine used to stay about a quarter of the way on the gauge, if i push it hard it goes up but then when you slow down again the gauge drops, which does make sense. I am not sure if this is a problem or not. any suggestions.

Thanks

that is not normal..

and to be hoenst i have no clue what the problem could be. I suspect a faulty gauge.. the coolant does not change temp. when you give it more throttle, so i dont understand why its going up and down.

could it be the thermostat? cuz the same gauge was working fine with the old engine, and is it dangerous in any way?

if it was the therm. it would either be overheating constantly or it would take a real long time for the gauge to move up

check your rad cap...

hey i got the same problem....i replaced my rad cap and still got the problem...anyone know what this is

imported_wajih1 24-Mar-2006 11:31 AM

yea, the rad cap didnt fix my problem either, thermostat is the only other thing, i am gonna try changing that saturday, see if it fixes the problem, unless someone has a better idea?

its not the rad cap.. if it was you would see stem or coolant coming out of it.

the thermostat MAY be the prob. but I doubt it. You gotta find out if your car is actually overheating.. or if its just your gauge.

my car doesnt over heat, it just stays too cool, however, today it seemed to be running normal again, temp gauge was going to the normal operating temp, so i am gonna leave it for a few days and see if its fine now, may be it was because of new coolant, or air in the system.

This is an odd thread, as I have a JDM d15b as well with the weird characteristics.

I just replaced my rad, all new fluid, but am having problems with my temp guage fluctuating between the middle of the guage and the serious top end.

A guy here at work suggested that I need to open up my rad cap, start the car and bring it to operating temp, this may allow for any air in the system to work itself out.

My fan operates somewhat normally, but when it really starts to overheat it has the tendancy to stay off.

I know no one has found an answer to this problem yet, but I will try to troubleshoot this tonight.

If any of you guys find a soloution let me know.

Hey guys,

Solved the problem..... left the rad cap off and ran the car for about 15minutes last night. Had a few bubbles come out when I squeezed the throttle.... bam, no more overheating!
