Tein and tie rod problem, Urgent

Alright, I just ran into a huge problem.

I have Tein SS on my car which was making popping noises on the passenger front side for quite a while. My buddy and I tried everything to get rid of it but it wouldn't go away. I took it in to Crown alignment today, and they said the tie rod nut came loose and fell off, damaging the taper on the tein shock that connects it to the tie rod end. They're working on it right now but is there anything I can do about this if they can't fix it? I got the Teins at Phantom, would this be covered under warranty, or would I have to go to JRP and send the shock directly to Tein to be fixed? Any help is good help right now, this is frustrating as hell.

Thanks Guys

i doubt it would be covered under warranty because it was your fault, not the product. didn't you put the cotter pin back in???

imported_ashtonp24 06-Jun-2006 12:08 PM

Yeah, we put everything back in, but that raises a very valid point, I don't understand how it could have come out.

if u put the cotter pin in, then there is no way for the bolt to come off.

The bolt came off, lets get back on track here, is there any way to fix this problem? bump

yea, fork out for a new shock...did you use a new cotter pin or the custy old one?

imported_ashtonp24 06-Jun-2006 02:13 PM

old one

can anyone explain to me what a taper actually is?

imported_ashtonp24 07-Jun-2006 12:47 PM

Update: Crown was able to bolt in the tie rod, they told me to come back in 4 weeks to check on it. I took it to Honda today to see if there were any other problems, they told me the springs weren't tight enough. I don't understand how to tighten them up, there's 6 threads left any advice?

there is a common problem when lowering the newer civics with the mcpherson strut design in the front. it causes the tie rods to be angled at an awkward angle and damaging them. ive heard of some ppl using rsx tie rods because they are beefier.

imported_ashtonp24 08-Jun-2006 09:37 AM

They are beefier, but I believe the size of the tie rod end is wider than a civic. But as far as the springs not being tight enough has anyone heard of this?

imported_italstallion 08-Jun-2006 09:53 AM

springs are springs you cant change the rates of them once their made.unlesssss u cut your springs im pretty sure that messes up the rate.what kind of springs are you on stock?

imported_ashtonp24 08-Jun-2006 11:28 AM

^^What??

imported_italstallion 08-Jun-2006 12:32 PM

what springs are you talking about to tighten?

imported_ashtonp24 08-Jun-2006 02:42 PM

The springs on the tein coilovers, Im not talking about changing rates or cutting springs.
