Tein SS

Do you guys think this is a good coil-over setup? The Tein SS. Comments? Reviews?

imported_gatherer 21-Mar-2004 06:28 AM

it is expensive.

Whiplash 21-Mar-2004 08:53 AM

when they first came out for the Gen7 there were apparently problems with them rusting..
i hear that's been corrected..

good system imo..

Use stock shocks in the winter and use SS for summer, they do get rust.

NoSpleeny 21-Mar-2004 07:14 PM

Can't you spray your shocks with an oil coating to prevent rust?

integra-r 21-Mar-2004 07:26 PM

personaly, i think it is good system. my friend broke his after 7 years. he goes to the track regularly. thinking about getting a set but expensive.

$1600 to $1800. if u see better price, please let me know.

NoSpleeny 21-Mar-2004 07:46 PM

Can you ride with these in winter and do anything to prevent rust or damage?

Brett 21-Mar-2004 07:50 PM

I recentely bought some used tein HA's and they are somewhat rusty. Word is that teins although excellent products seem to rust regardless of whether they are driven in the winter... I would think you could treat the finish with something in order for them not to rust???

scarlemthug 21-Mar-2004 09:24 PM

Ed (SiR_Yo) has the Tein SS's on his EP hatch and the ride was phenominal and that was set on medium. They have supposedly corrected the rusting issue now and use a new coating although there is stuff u cna spray on after u adjust the heigh to prevent rust.

IMO I think there an awesome setup and if I had te money I woulda purchased a set.

By ride quality being good.. you mean the car doesn't shake when going over bumps? My car hits the tiniest bump and the car feels like it's gonna rattle apart.

Like will it make the car feel as good as like a Lexus or Benz?

I'm all for ride comfort than performance.

scarlemthug 21-Mar-2004 09:39 PM

the ride wasnt bone jaring stiff that it was uncomfortable but at the same time the response was very nice too. PM SiR_Yo about them, ask his opinion since he drives with em daily.

imported_fotoboy0806 21-Mar-2004 10:12 PM

i got a set on my sister's EP3 too! amazing! i tried setting it at softest and stiffest! it's soft enuf and pretty stiff!!! usually set it at mdeium! great great ride!!

imported_SiR_YO 21-Mar-2004 10:19 PM

Kent, PM'ed sent...

but just to let you know.. any coil over setup you get, it won't feel like a Lexus or a Benz... what do you currently have right now? maybe your shocks are blown??

NoSpleeny 21-Mar-2004 10:28 PM

I have Eibach Pro-Kit w/ stock shocks.

The ride quality's so poor.. that some bumps actually throw me out of my seat.

DOn't forget.. my car bounces quite a bit too.. it bounces and won't stop bouncing up and down when it hits some bumps. It's like an old american car.

when you step on the brakes at a light.. the car stops.. front goes down.. goes up and down up and down.. that's like my car.

B16A_2 21-Mar-2004 10:32 PM

Your shocks probably are blown. Why not just get a set of koni sport shocks? Go to Group buy forum theres a koni group buy going on.
I guess pro kit won't be too low for winter, unless you want to adjust height every winter and get a 4 wheel alignment.

NoSpleeny 21-Mar-2004 10:36 PM

Konis for the 7th gen civics require to use the stock shock housing. No thanks.

I rather just go with KYB AGX. I actually snow plow most of the streets when it snows. The pro-kit lowers MUCH MUCH more than the posted 1 inch that it says on their site. It lowered more like 1.5" on the front and 2+ on my rear.

My rear tires actually sit exactly in line with top of the wheel well metal.

imported_SiR_YO 21-Mar-2004 10:48 PM

are you sure you got the prokit theN??? that can't be right...

get the AGX's then.. they'll allow you to adjust the damper.. or if you want to treat yourself, go with the Tein's :D

.... says the man on 17 inch rims :haha:

you said goodbye to ride quality the second you installed those rims.

NoSpleeny 22-Mar-2004 09:56 AM

I ride on 15s during winter and the ride quality is crust. I still get launched out of my seat on the bad bumps on the 401.

bbarbulo 22-Mar-2004 09:58 AM

that's cuz of the mcphearson susp and it's lack of travel.

unless you get short body, long travel shocks you'll never get that ride quality back. I think the Tein SS is a short body shock but check to make sure.
