synthetic oil question
#5
it's not a recent rumour at all...that rumour started floating around years ago within mx bike circles that rode 2 stroke engines (which was the standard back then) when I use to ride mx bikes and such . They said that once you went syn (good race oil) you could not switch cause the dino oil woudl not provide lubricity and woudl just scrape off and your piston woudl seize etc. But this myth was not true...(what I can gather is peopel jsut went back to cheap lawnmower oil and blew their motor cause the oil it's self sucked) now in the past 4-5 years everyone and their uncle runs cheap syn in cars so the rumour is back...it's not true oil is freakin oil.

I think Mobil 1 is really good.
Also there's a bunch of 'toys' from amsoil you can get.
Amsoil pre-charger

If your motor was taken care of well (i.e. regular oil changes), and it's less than 150K, go right ahead. If it's got high mileage, it might be a bit of a small risk because the extra detergents in the synthetic could wash off deposits around gaskets which have formed "seals" over the years and seep. Not only that, synthetic oil is thinner, and does tend to seep any chance it could. But other than that, and in many cases you won't have leaks, you're pretty safe. Go for it! My favourite brand is Valvoline Synpower, which I've used in my Maxima for years.
