You would still get those benifits even if you did a regular oil change.....better gas milage....smoother runing engine....ect.
Anytime you get rid of the old oil, and replace it with new oil, you will see an improvevment.
As long as you chang your oil regularly, I don't see the advantage of Synthetic, It's just going to cost more. Less money for gas or mods.
Chew on this for a while.......Honda engines can already go 250,000 KM+ using regular oil when you do oil changes........why go Synthetic then? My 2c's.:working:

I use Synthetic oil and I've noticed more performance than using original oil. Synthetic doesn't wear down as quick as regular oil does. I've also noticed I'm getting better mileage and more response from the engine. Besides that, you're engine will last longer. Plus, gives you 10,000 km to change the oil, less headache.

1)
Synthetic oil is more resistant to heat. Dyno juice breaks down at high temp and fails to perform its lubricating functions. Synthetic is able to withstand extended duration of high temp better. So if you drive your car at redline most of the time, use synthetic; if you upped your redline, use synthetic, if you're using supercharger or turbocharger, use synthetic.
2)
Synthetic has more cleaning agent in it that keeps your engine cleaner. Ever read the back label of Mobile 1 synthetic? It says you can use it for Diesel engines(light). Diesel engine oils are able to clean away the carbon build up better, and we all know that carbon build up kills performance. So there you go.
Why use synthetic you say? Why not? True honda engines last forever using OEM spec oil, provided that the car is experiencing normal wear. If they really think that the engine can last forever no matter how you drive it, then the warranty would be a heck of a lot longer than 5 years. I don't see any touring cars, F1 cars, Rally cars, hell any performance oriented vehicle running non-synthetic. I personally like the pro-active approach much better, the extra $15-$30 dollars per oil change is worth the piece of mind.
