Swapping older engine in a newer car
 

is this legal? I know its been discussed before but I dont think any real conclusion was made for Canada. I have heard its illegal but I think that has to do with California laws doesn't it?

No its illegal....regardless.
But really, other than passing california's bar i wouldn't really worry about it.
Lots of people do it, i mean, if you were to buy a 2nd gen obd1 b16a how could you guarantee its newer or as new as (lets just say) your 95 civic?
Short of reading the stamp on the head (which no one at an etest place would know to do) or running the VIN its hard to tell what year the engine was made.
Now if its something as blatantly obvious like as putting a ZC into a 99 civic i think someone who deals with cars all of the time (like a e-test tech) would probably know the difference.

Don't know i've never read through all of the documents before. I think i remember hearing something about that at the Ontario Drive Clean class i took. But that was a while ago and i may just be imagining it.

Well i actually went to the university of cincinnati for graphic design and graduated with a 3.6 grade point average (its out of 4). But that hasn't got me sh1t.
I've been working on cars (specifically hondas) for 3-4 years now. I've worked at a couple of dealerships in the past few years but am currently working at a little shop rebuilding honda's. Its fun but its a lot of work and kinda takes the fun out of it being a hobby.

I hear that :D your wealth of knowledge doesn't go unnoticed thats for sure. Im glad you have hands on knowledge when alot of people are e-mechanics and have never touched a motor before :D

I know what i know from doing it. No better experience than hands-on. I was tired of getting screwed by shops that do shoddy work, so i figured i would take things into my own hands....no pun intended.
I just wish that i would've got heavily into cars right out of highschool instead of wasting my time in university.

You must have acquired your plethora of honda engine knowledge since then, because its makes no sense to me that a person with your level of knowledge would get someone else to install thier swap.

yeah. I was just lazy and had way more money than motivation. And my parents were telling me not to do the swap out on the street. I didn't have even a garage to use or work at a shop where i could do the work at the time. I know its very possible to do a swap in a driveway with handtools, i've done it that way before myself and it still only took 3 days....lol
But i started working on cars way before i got my swap done.
A lesson learned the hard way with the whole swap thing. I got screwed so hard, in so many ways by them. Its funny you don't see that guy post on here much anymore. I wonder if that shop is still open.
