swap question

ok so my motor is die, 95 SI ,
close to 300km on motor, adn from what i know origanl belt. lol
senser are going too

got a good over for a B17A1 motor, from what I know thats a GSR motor from a 92-93 Teg, althought they only came with cable trannys,

cany any one tell me how hard it is to do this swap , and can i use a trany from say a 94 + teg to make it hydro?? something like a RS, GS tranny

any one know what else is needed, from waht i know its ECU Motor, origanl harness all for 700

let me know if you think its worth it too

from what i know i would need axles and tranny so let me know thanks

do yourself a favour and don't use a LS/GS/RS tranny on a VTEC engine. Get a b16, ITR or GSR hydro tranny.
You'll need B-series axles, engine mounts, shifter linkages and rad hoses.

the tranny depends on what type of driving you are doing... if you drive on the highway a lot I say stay away from teh b16 and the ITR tranny because it will rev over 4k at 120km/h

if you aren't into speed or anything and are on a budget an LS tranny will be fine.

The swap isn't too difficult, like andrew said you need a few parts. Do a search on this site i've gone into detail with what you need several times.

Man, those engines were designed to be revved at 4000rpms on the highway.....why do you think they came with such short geared trannys?
If you think the GSR tranny will be much better than a b16/ITR tranny on the highway, you've got something coming.
If you're so worried about revving at 4000rpms at 120km/hr then don't do this swap.
C-pos is just *****ing b/c his b20 isn't so friendly on the old gas at 4000rpms on the highway. However a b16 or b17 (practically the same thing) won't be.
I'm on the highway at 4500+ rpms in 5th and i get my best gas mileage on the highway.
The LS tranny WILL hurt acceleration on a b16/b17....i've been in a few cars with b16/b17s with LS trannys, it sucks the life outta the torqueless little engines.
If your not worried about performance put another d-series back in there and save yourself the money, you'll appreciate not having to use premium gas (DOHC VTEC engines need premium), you'll appreciate the longer geared tranny and you'll appreciate not having to switch everything over to have an engine your not even going to try to make faster.

I get horrible gas mileage on the highway with my b16. I try to take hwy 27 instead of the 400 because the difference in mileage is crazy noticable. Also its ****in annoying when your cars reving at 4500rpm with a loud exhaust screaming at you!
I love my b16 just not over 110! I've also had b16 with an ls tranny and it wasn't as bad as you are making it out to be. Its only a bit slower if you keep the revs up. Its good for DD if you just want a faster engine and you arn't looking to race on weekends or something. But if your looking for speed I agree with you and I would do the ITR, or B16 tranny (never experiencd the GSR tranny)
I have my head shaved, cams, camgears, blah blah and it makes the car fun as hell with the b16 tranny, I find its easier to control revs and performance at speeds below 100 with the shorter tranny

if you like falling out of vtec when shifting use the LS tranny.

With longer gears you will have to push the gas pedal down farther to get the car to move, thus making the car consume more gas, totally defeating the point of using a LS tranny to save gas.

B16s have short geared tranny to get the rpms up to where they make power faster.
Even my stock b16 got decent gas mileage on the highway with a mugen chip and vafc. My b16 is built like yours and i now get better gas mileage than i ever have (mostly b/c of the tuning though, which i do myself).
Maybe there is an underlying reason for your poor mileage.
I too was sick of my exhaust screaming (2.5") so i installed a baffled resonator (not a straight through like what was on before) and now its perfect.
The only way i'd ever put a LS tranny on a b16 is if its boosted, a few friends of mine have the LS tranny on their boosted b16/b17s and they love it....but before it was boosted you could definately feel the loss of acceleration with the LS tranny compared to the b16 tranny.
Anywho, people don't do swaps to get better gas mileage, and if your car is going faster, generally, its using more gas.
B-series swaps into EG's are a simple bolt-on affair using 94-01 integra mounts, axles and shift linkages. There are a few other things to know, but they've been covered so many times before.

man ls trannys are so long
i hear first and second gear moaning a mile away.

imported_rafaln 02-Apr-2007 04:23 PM

well the long part dosnet hurt much cuz i plan to turbo it a bit later, just didnt know about the b17, 1st time i ever heard of the motor , i'm so used the the b16, b18, b20,
i was just checking if theres anything weired with teh motor i know most B stuff should just bolt on but never know right so thought i woudl come on here and just check to be safe,

and i know B16 Tranny is nice but i cant seem to find one cheap yet,
looking to spend about 400 on tranny if i can pull it off

imported_rafaln 02-Apr-2007 04:25 PM

other then that wanna change the block size of the motor to something other then a 1.5 or 1.6 so i no longer have to fully pass e-test, just run in as a hotrod

imported_rafaln 02-Apr-2007 05:30 PM

as for the axles i belive that the old B with cable trannys used 1 peice axles on both sides, as from what i know the newer stuff has the half shaft aswell ,

is there a place to mount the half shaft or no thats more the info that i need to know ??

if you can hlep that be great thanks again

zeeman 02-Apr-2007 05:38 PM

all b-series trannys use the half shaft on the drivers side

imported_rafaln 02-Apr-2007 11:32 PM

any one know where i can get a LS tranny Cheap with axles
?? some one has to have one laying around any one wanna help me out

zeeman 03-Apr-2007 01:34 AM

did you read anything i posted?

Honestly, using a LS tranny IS as bad as i explained. And until you boost your car i wouldn't use a LS tranny.
You'll have to set your vtec to like 4800rpms or lower just so you don't fall out of vtec when you shift...and vtec that low is just rediculous, you're car will be even slower with vtec that low.

If your worried about gas mileage DON'T DO A SWAP!!!.

Don't ask for advice if you're not going to listen (huge pet peeve of mine).
