suspension problems

I got my illuminas on and the ride is better especially around turns...it turns so flat its awesome. however its still kinda bumpy. i currently have front and back on #3 setting. few questions. how much of a difference would new top hats make? and could it possibly be sportlines being too harsh? i doubt that should matter with illuminas. anything else in suspension that controls up and down movement? and also...how do you know if you're supposed to cut your bump stops at all? thx

I have agx's and I don't think you can control the bumps... Closer to the ground.. However I've went over speed bumps at a faster speed and I can hardly feel them.

also...where are bump stops supposed to be positioned on the shock or does that even matter?

no suggestions? i just dont understand why it handles so great around curves (minus the 13" winter tires) but rides so bumpy over bumps

try 5 ion the rear and 3 in the front ... you ain't seen bumpy till you've tried that

ok seriously from the books I've read a general recommendation is 1 in the front 3 in the rear ...for street and 3 in the front and 5 in the rear for racing as a baseline and adjust from there for your particular driving style.

you mean bouncy? or bumpy as in harsh... if its harsh, then thats the price you pay for going performance what did you expect, stiff cornering but Cadilac plush?

Bumpyness is increased with a stiffening of the bound of the shock and decreased with a softening of the bound....

this is because with a stiffer bound setting when the bump hits more energy is transfered to the sprung portion of the wieght of the car ... causing you to feel it... with a softer bound this results in a suspension that compresses more over bumps and therefore absorbs the energy of the motion. I hope this helps

I believe Illuminas are only rebound adjustable... (which I'm still figuring out ...)

how's your alignment? did you have it done since you installed the shocks? do you have springs done>? how about after market bars?

Alginment has everything do to with it ... as the double wishbone suspension moves up and down settings like Camber and castor and toe change ... this is probably the "all over the place" your experiencing...

personally I have Tokico's and stock springs and it's harsh... I feel every bump... settings are 3 and 5 (front and back) but my car is not all over the place when I hit a bump.....

is your susp stock (a-arms, knuckles, forks, etc). If any one of these was replaced with Integra ones or something, then the geometry will be totally messed up.

secondly, I'd make sure the ball joints, upper and lower are in good shape. Replace the strut tops too - they carry the weight of the car and have significant importance.

The bump stop is to be cut in half no matter what. Where you place it after cutting is irrelevant, it will slide freely on the shaft till it reaches the top and it'll stay put.

Once you have everything sorted out! - bump stops cut, new upper mounts, and made sure all the sheeyat works are expected and is the correct geometry, then you can align it and be at peace.

i dont think they have to be cut if you're riding stock height. All my stuff is stock...upper control arms replaced about 6 months ago...will get them checked again since car was lowered whole time...lower balljoints or tie rods...one or the other are gone for sure cuz my car clunks over little bumps and on driveways and ****. ill get new top hats as well...gonna take everything apart and do it all over again.
