Suspension issues

So i got my progress coils from astroboy (amar) today and i went to isntall em. I ran into a few minor thigns but near teh end things were goign smoothly. So I got to take off the last rear LCA bolt to get the spring and shock out and SNAP, the head of the bolt broke off. So after attempting to drill into it and use a screw removal tool and snapping that im at a loss for what to do. We cut off the nut that is welded to the other side and now the only options I see are to completely drill out the bolt with some nice metal drillbits or get an entire new suspension.

Does anyone have any other ideas ?

BTW the progress comp II coils look sweet and are very nice quality, ill post pics of the car fully raised and slammed when its finished.

you just need a new bushing and lca bolt

done and done, after that you will be fine..

you can attempt to drill it out but good luck, its tough

simple your shock sits on afork that wraps over your LCA .. cut both sides of the bolt that goes through the LCA with a sawzall and your set

it may look like the bushing is built into the LCA but its not, its just pressed in place, pops out

like gather said

k matt u know that diagram u posted in my other thread. Well there is a bolt that holds the forks on the shock to the LCA and then there is a blot right in front of it that holds the LCA to im guessing the upper control arm? Its the second bolt.

so the shock is fine correct?

is it the bolt that attaches to the rear drum brakes, or the other outer one that connects to the chasis?

it's probably the bolt that conects the rear lower control arm to the trailing arm. lets use the proper names because it makes it easier to figure out ,..... in that case since it's a different bolt..... do what I said! seriously then you just have to worry about drilling out a smaller chunk from the trailing arm.....

you can cut that that one out too

same thing happened to me. Head broke off so I used a grinder, cut it out, then use vise grips and took the rest of the bolt out from the nut thats tack welded onto the other side.

yeah its just easier to get the suspension out when the rear lca is dropped down. Got the problem fixed, took off the whole LCA and drilled the bolt out.

Just gotta drop the rear and im set.

you risk a better chance snapping a bolt with a regular wrench or breaker bar then with back/forth technique on impact gun

the loud one is right... impact places direct torque on the bolt whereas a ratchet puts all kinds of other forces on it outside of the axis of rotation.

I keep seeing threads about bad bolts, etc when you're taking your suspension apart. I'm weighing my options at the moment as to whether or not I do my suspension work myself. I don't have a second car so I'd be kinda screwed if my car ended up undriveable while I try and troubleshoot something along these lines. Can someone give me some kind of odds about running into stripped/broken bolts while replacing the suspension. My car is a 2000 so hopefully the bolts are all still in good condition. I was also planning on using a combination of WD40 and elbow grease to do it. Should I go out and grab liquid wrench to make it easier?

WD40 works fine... just soak it lots, and say a little prayer for each bolt Being a 2000, that's 4 winters... plenty of time for it to seize up, but I think you can still break it loose if you got skillz
