suspension

I'm new at all this suspension stuff, but I'm really interested. Say I bought some lowering springs that says that they drop up to 2.25" in the front and 2.0" in the rear.. do you have to adjust anything or will it automatically lower the rfont 2.25 and the rear 2.0? & also, I would need a camber kit for this right? Is there a difference between coilovers and lowering springs? Thanks

coil-overs are adjustable..
so you'll be able to take them from say 2.5" up to 0"
great for winter conditions i guess..
down fall tho is you have to adjust camber everytime you do any significant raise or lower..

needing camber kit??...i'd say yes with that great of a drop..

also, going down that low i'd be looking at shocks that are designed to run within that "range"..

oh, and ya, springs'll drop w/o any adjustments..

coilover sleeves
adjustable 0"-4"
has stiffer springs which makes for a stiffer ride
great for autocross

lowering springs
usually 1.75"-2.25"
better ride quality for everyday driving

Thanks for all the info, it was great. Anyway, I have one more, what would you say would be a good drop for the front and the rear? Over 2" or in the 1.75" area

I say a 2" drop fr and rr would give the car a better stance.
I have mine dropped about 2.25" with 16s and no rubbing.

yes i agree its better to have both front and rear height the same, go for a 2 inch drop, i have a 2.5 front and rear + a body kit (pain in the *** driving) gotta be real careful or BOOM il be picking up my pieces:cry: ...by the way i suggest you get at least a front camber kit if u go any more than 2 inches, for the rear u can always do bolts and washers unless ur camber is wayyyy off...

cee;

first...don't buy coilovers, unless they are skunk2 or grond control. these however are expensive, but is the only way to go if you decide on coils. with coils, you get what you pay for, so if you go out and buy a cheap set, that's what you will get.

i would highly recommend H & R sport/race springs depending on the amount of drop you want. if you want (i don't know where yo live) come out to a mississauga west end meet, we can show you the difference in actual drop for both (sport 1.8f 1.5r/race 2.5f 2.25r).

if you go below 2" i would suggest a camber kit, which again is more $$$$. also you'll have to upgrade your shocks sooner, than if you had a drop above 2".

if you want better handling, and a nice lookin drop get the sports, they cost $280, and you won't need a camber kit.

the drop is noticeable immediately....as soon as they are on, the car is lower....just put them on and drive.

Are body kits really a pain in the ***? Would you guys recommend Tokico shocks, and would it be better to have adjustable shocks or would non adjustable be fine? Thanks for all the info guys!

If I don't get adjustable shocks, and I get H&R Sports, would I still get that 1.8" and 1.5" drop?

Yeah, shock adjustability is usually just for damping/rebound, I've got H&R race in my 5g civic (about 2.5 drop) and I just bought a camber kit cuz I'm going through tires like nutz (handles great though) my problem is that my rear tires are real close to rubbing (they do in extreme driving) cuz they tuck in the rear wells, but when I put on the camber kit to bring them out it will get way worse. Guess I'll hafta get narrower or lower offset wheels.

I have H+R sport with Koni Reds and am very Happy,
Neuspeed and H+R basically are the same....

I didn't get coilovers because they can seize , especially in our wonderful weather...
I didn't get adjustable struts because I would be too lazy to adjust them .

Just my 2 cents

Get adjustable lower control arms, that'll solve your problem. I forget who makes them though.

Koni specials (red in color) are adjustable. Just check out the full line on Koni's website.

I can't see how you guys don't scrape on your dropped springs. I have H&R Sports with Tokico blues and I'm either scraping the wheel wells with my 205/45/16's(summer tires) or the bottom of the car is scraping the ground when going over ramps with my 175/75/13's (winter/oem's)

Man you got it bad. First of all, your summer wheels are the wrong offset. I used to rub 15s, then I threw them in the garbage and bought 17s and no more problems. I've changed my susp 3 times now...currently on H&R coilovers. Rears tuck easy, the fronts are about 1/2 off the tire. If I go a whole lot lower, I suppose I could scrape the frame with the tip of my tires when at full lock and full compression, but if I put a 1mm spacer and long wheels studs I would not have that issue. I have removed the top clip that holds the plastic wheel liner in place cause I needed that 2 mm of clerance there, but the wheel liner is still there undamaged. No issues at all in the back, 42mm offset tucks right in, but I did remove that black rubber moulding that goes around the inside of the rear quarter panel. If your offset is 38, you'll likely rub the fender or the plastic liner...42 I think just touches the frame like mine does, but the rears have no issues.
