Strut Tower Bar for 92 civic Si Hatch
 

Hello Everyone,

I just joined this forum and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Currently, I've been looking to install a front and rear strut tower bar. My question is, would this upgrade be able to give me a noticable difference in terms of suspension, cornering and body roll?

I figured I would start off with something small, before I decide to work my way up to a full spring and shock upgrade.

You'll notice a slight difference, but not much if your still riding stock suspension. When all of your upgraded suspension comes together (provided you want to upgrade) the tower bars will come into play. I think its economical way to upgrade, anything to stiffen up the car is good start IMO. Goodluck.

As for the rest of the supspension though, what brand should i look for in particular. A friend of mine recommended Koni springs and shocks, but i forgot to ask how much that all costed him.

Any ideas?

Koni / Omni / Function & Form / A lot of great companies out there.

Some are coilovers, some shocks & springs.

KONI + Ground Control. That is all you need.

I am getting them from USA where I would save over $420 if I were to get them here in Canada...

Ground Control? What is that? And a couple other things.
In terms of strut tower bars, is there anything is specifie; i.e. dimensions, that i should look for to notice the maximum amount of results?

And what about sway bars?

Basically, i'm trying to do as many mod's as i can on a very limited budget, and considering that this car is an everday driver that goes back and forth between Georgetown, ON, and Waterloo, ON i'm trying to make sure the mods that i commit to don't cause any extra wear and tare.

Okay here is what I suggest doing first.

Get some Shocks/Coilover sleeves or lowering springs. Ground Control is a coilover sleeve. it is what many many racers, auto-x'ers use. Its a tried and proven combination. With Ground Controls you can select what spring rate you would like or get "out of self" specifications.

As for strut bars or sway bars, I would go with those after you lower your car. These is what I would call "fine tuning pieces". I would go with a sway bar for the rear. Skip getting cheap front strut bars unless you get a Password JDM 3-pt strut bar that is one-piece. But you don't really need it.

Just get...

1. Lower your car with your desired setup.

2. Fine tune with sway bar (front or rear)




Do whatever you want after.

Hopefully i can find all this for an affordable price. From what i was seeing the "affiliates" section, they don't really have a lot of variety. Or that's what it seems like based on what they've posted on their site.

Normally i get all my parts from Pacific Mall in Markham. Those guys have REALLY good prices 90% of the time.

wih jus a front upper strut bar i did notice a good difference as i tested it before n after and gained an additonal 8-10 km/h on making fast turns on ramps and stuff. i got mine for like 40 bucks for 1 at pmall

For general suspension work, please visit the sticked thread in the top of this forum.

As for strut bars, they won't do much on their own, as everything will have to come together to reach a better handling. A lot of time, a better handling is psychological thing due to the new parts you just put on.

I bet you just felt more comfortable doing the higher speeds cuz you installed something...not cuz the part actually works

That's another thing i was worrying about to. So far, after each upgrad i had installed, there was a noticable difference. For example, when i put in my stainless steal header, there was a DEFINATE increase in torque. As for the strut bar however, i have a friend who recently installed one, and he claims he noticed some change in the car's handling.

For this upgrade though, i'm just trying to do the entire suspension is small affordable steps. Eventually, i want to get a set of tein coil overs + Ground Control. This way i can slam it in the summer, and seeings how this is CANADA, raise that bad boy up in the winter time.
