Strange sound when i start my car
 

On occasion when i start my car it makes a loud grinding sound. I think it might be the starter. It just when a starter goes it just dies this sound is like when u turn the key with the car already on. Its a loud grinding sound. It only happens in cold weather and when it does it a release the key and try again and it fine. It happens like once a week. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong.

try putting some white grease on your drive gear (if your too cheap to buy a new or used starter)

(btw i have a d-series starter for $40 if you want)
