Strange noise when I turn

Hi guys,

I have a 92 civic hatch. I find that everytime I make a turn I can hear a strange clattering sound from the front of the car. Now the strange thing is that if i let the car roll on turns it doesn't make the sound but if i am exelerating on this turn it does make the sound.

Does anyone know what this could be??

any help would be great..

thanks

front passenger or front driver? inside or outside or coming from under the hood?

JDMman 21-Nov-2007 10:24 AM

sounds like its coming from the front of the car down under somewhere. Mainly it sounds like its coming from the right side but i do hear it from the left side sometimes...

what could it be??

CV?

angryasian 22-Nov-2007 05:26 PM

probably your cv joint,
check to see if you got a rip in one of the boots?

JDMman 23-Nov-2007 03:13 AM

yeah i checked... there is a rip in my right cv boot... but would that really make that huge clattering noise???

angryasian 23-Nov-2007 08:09 AM

yes, if all the grease has come out of the cv joint, and dirt has got into it...
is there grease all over the suspension or wheel on that side?
i would get a new axle instead of rebuilding it, aadco has good prices for rebuilt axles...

cv joint... i agree with the others.... maybe ball joint though... did u say it only does it when you turn the wheel?

JDMman 23-Nov-2007 11:08 AM

yeah i only hear it when i turn the wheel but when accelerating... if the car is rolling on the turn it doesn't make the noise

JDMman 26-Nov-2007 07:06 AM

how much would this run me do you think???

I have a parts car so i might be able to use some of the parts from there...

Acoriano 26-Nov-2007 08:43 AM

this is probably not your case but.. receently my heatshield has been rattling like crazy. so the other day while at tmmies me n some buddies ripped off the bottom half but couldnt get to the top half. Now whenever i make turns (right of left) i can hear clattering..most likely because the top half is gettin looser. Check it out because its alot less expensive to fix the cv joints n stuff like that. its worth a look!

JDMman 26-Nov-2007 04:41 PM

only thing is that it makes the noise only on accelerated turns... if i turn without excelerating it doesn't make the noise..

i don't know what this means but i would assume if it was the heat sheild that it would make the noise no matter what

if you have your own mechanic like i do, just go take it to him have him check it out.

if not i still suggest you take it to someone who knows what they are looking than troubleshooting yourself.

CV for sure....your looking at about 1-2 hrs to do...and the part comes with a core charge...so if u return ur old one...you get some money back

artie93 06-Jan-2008 08:24 PM

i got mine fixed a while back cv joint, i think with labour and parts it ended up costing me about 400 bucks it isnt cheap but it is something u need to get fixed

int3gl2a17 12-Jan-2008 06:03 PM

that is ur CV joint, it would cost you around $130 for CV-Joint (ABS) for the part at NAPA then DIY its not that hard to install it 60-120 min...
