Strange burning smell...

Hey guys, sometimes when I'm driving, I can smell this undescribable burning smell. Almost like burning oil or something, but not quite. It just doesn't smell very pleasant and makes me a little nauseas. Any idea what this problem is? Exhaust leak? Burnt oil? :shrugs:

I'll check for that...

and as for the possibility of exhaust leakage....the smell is very on and off, sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't.

oh, and no I don't have a big stereo..

crap, I don't read very thoroughly :p Nope, not rotten eggs, so it can't be my cat :p

u most likely ran over a bag and it melted somewhere under there

ahahah

no it's not hydro :bling:

but if it was a plastic bag, how come the smell would be on and off? Wouldn't it just smell bad for a while until it was all melted? :shrugs:

well, there aren't any plastic bags underneath the car that's been confirmed, so maybe exhaust leak?

did you do an oil change recently? maybe it's oil on the exhaust pipe from after changing the filter. it usually takes a few days to burn off and is accompanied by a smell.

there's also a chance that what you're smelling could be electrical, melting of wire insulation???

is this smell only in the passenger compartment or can you smell it when you open the hood?

ya my buddy had a smelly burnt wire... which eventually caused a little engine bay fire.... hopefully its not that

bbarbulo 10-Sep-2003 09:54 AM

1 cylinder car can't do much harm. Don't worry, by the time the last cylinder is gone, no more smell, I can garantee that!

Wow, world's first single cylinder, 4 stroke vtecH

imported_echien 10-Sep-2003 11:39 PM

:listen: it's your G/F!

:joke: maybe oil filter loose and leaking oil on exhaust???
