The story of the EF that could....

I had an EF that i used to push hard...baby was clocking 358 000 KM but still keeping up with SiR's!!! even tho i burnt 1/2 my oil.,...but the pt is it was a 1989 Si... JDM

now i drive an EK....and i am wondering will the engine run that long and how often should i do the fluid changes...and all the other good stuff that comes along with owning a honda

my car now has 96 000 KM on it...and i will be changing the oil this weekend...

10W 30 is fine? or 5W 30?!?!?!
Full synthetic or normal? with my EF i was really cheap and put any oil in it...but i want to baby this car...plz let me know

yup go for 10w30 and in the winter chagne to 5w30 .. and depending on how often you change your oil i would go for synthetic.. if you like to change every 1000km go with normal oil which would save you money.. or every 6000km use synthetic.. also synthetic is suppose to be better for your engine if you are constantly turning your engine on and off

I try to follow the Honda maintenance schedule fairly close. You can pick one up at a dealer. I use 5w30 all year round just because that's what is recommended for the car, and I'm switching to Synthetic next change. Oil every 6k's. Tranny, clutch, brake fluid and coolant once a year.

Why do guys use 10W-30 or even 10W-40 in their motors even though 5W-30 is recommended? Why?

Tranny fluid is different from brake/clutch fluid. There's also power steering fluid which I'm not sure if it's the same as brake/clutch fluid. Some people put motor oil (10W-30 or 10W-40) as their tranny fluid, but that's only if you can find the real MTF.

im gonna take it into the dealership every yr to change that **** (MTF) & brake/Clutch fluid....cuz im not gonna risk flushing them out and putting them back in
its easier and safer on both ends

festiva, Hondas are able to use 10W30 in the tranny, 80W90 would kill a Honda tranny

for a daily driver - non perfornace honda I'd use Mobil 1, OEM filter all the time. And yes, it WILL last just as long, if not longer. I've seen a 95 Accord (in about 2000, so 5 years old) - it had over 500,000 kms on it. The owner was a train engineer, so he travelled a lot I guess Performance honda I'd use Amsoil 5W30 and Hamp or OEM filters.

treat your Honda well, and it will treat you well.

don't worry i haven't changed my oil or filter in 36 000 Kms i want the engine to DIE so i can convince the GF we need a new one i just keep putting oil in it every day it leaks out i try my hardest to kill the SOB but it just won't ****ing die !!!!!! she is one of those if it isn't broke don't fix it kind of people and as she see's it it still gets us both to work and fires up every morning and night so it works fine!!!!!!
i fix everything else but the engine !!!! this engine is a true testament to the power of the JDM d15b !!!!!!!!!!!!
