stop body roll with air ride?

Hey guys,

What can i do to lower the body roll on my car?

I recently installed air ride, and ever since i'm getting crazy body roll during turns. before the Air was installed i had r1 coilovers and 3 sway bars (front upper/rear upper and rear lower) and the ride was stiff around turns. Now, i only have the rear lower and front upper installed (rear upper won't fit, air tank in the way)..

is there anything other than strut/sway bars that i can install to lesson the lean during turns?

Any advice would be appreciated...

Sam

I highly suspect the bars you speak of are not strut braces and not sway bars ....

personally I'd suggest going with a proper suspension setup.

yeah, i'm sure it's the air ride causing the roll...but i was wondering if there is anything i can install (other than a new suspension ) to stop it from rolling as much?

those are braces. Sway bars are something completely different...

you can't combat body roll by using sway bars and strut tower braces.

the civic sway bar will rip the subframe when you have inappropriate spring rates.

under NORMAL circumstances a sway bar is made to combat body roll, but since you have an air ride you will put too much stress on the sway bar and cause the subframe to rip. You installed the air ride for looks, not performance, now live with it.

get some sway bars..... might help but it would also seriously reduce the things you can do with the air ride suspension (popping a tire into the air etc.)

anyways.... I hope this helps...

I figured there wasn't much i could do to help the roll...maybe i'll try a sway bar, i don;t plan on doing 3 wheels or anything on the car anyway...is a simple FB setup..

anyway, thanks for the quick replies!

if you are on bags your i doubt there will be anway to eliminate the body roll. The guy at the meet was running some air cylinders and had reinforced the rear with tubing. You might wanna try and get in contact with him as he installs air ride setups and his setup was crazy

yeah he said he was on the board but I do not know his username. He will most likely be at the KC meets if you wanna get in touch with him.

WHnever you do a F/B setup with 4 valves, you will get mad body roll. YOu must run an independant suspension 8 valves. You will have much less body roll problems. It must be a nightmare to drive with 4 valves.

Also I drive daily with 2 air cylinder cars.. The body roll is not bad at all.. I drive 140 on the highway all the time. Just have to find the sweet spot. Rides good for me. Better than cheap coil-over sleeves on stock shocks.

And I have never used accumulators for my cylinders or any install I have ever done. Dont let people discourage you and tell you to ripp out the suspension. But again install is very important and safety is number 1. Everything must be done properly and all safety precautions must be taken. [check valves, shut offs, quality solenoids, shrader valves, bla bla bla] YOu can NEVER be to safe.

thanks phatz...so true about the safety issue!

i didn;t even use check valves (i realized how important they are after the install), i'm definately gonna put them on ASAP, that may be causing more roll as well...on that note..u have PM
