sticky throttle in closed position
since my recent motor swap i wake up every morning to find i have to press really hard to free the gas pedal, and almost feel that jamming it the way i have to will eventually break something... once it is free the throttle behaves as normal... BUT.. within a few minutes when the car has warmed up, it has a tendency to stick again in the closed position.... if i am approaching a red light and just let off the gas altogether and coast til i come to a stop, i find the gas pedal to have become stuck again when its time to go.. on the highway if i gun it even for a few seconds, and then let off the gas altogether it will get stuck once i try and engage it again and i notice the faster i drive before i had let off the gas the stickier and harder it was to press down on it after..
before making this thread i did read past threads and other various posts on the web and have cleaned the entire throttle body out with throttle body cleaner from cdn tire and lubricated all the parts attached to the TB, and checked to make sure the cable has not seized... my obsevations tell me that the sticking has something to do with temperature increase.. has anyone else had a simliar problem? what did u do to solve it? |
you can try adjusting the throttle position screw that your butterfly valve assembly rests on in the fully closed position. it is on the front of the tb just at the bottom of the throttle plate rotating assebly that the cable fastens to. the screw is in part of the aluminum casting at the bottom. just thread it up slightly to prevent it from sticking, it might take a couple tries to get just right, but you can just pull the cable each time you make an adjustment to check before you take it out for a road test. if this is a bored out tb, then you might always have this problem due to poor fitment of the throttle plate.

only if you adjust it to the point where the throttle isn't closing fully anymore. But there is a fine line between just right and having it adjusted too much to where it won't let the throttle plate close all of the way.

personally I wouldnt touch the idle screw. I'd just service your throttle body and it should be fine.

well, i dunno if you have this problem, I Did once on a B16a in a crx, the little metal cap from my cheap ass intake filter came off of the cone, and was stuck right up against the TB so it couldn't move properly =p check that little metal cap if you have cone filter :P

ya i was....stupid 403 was backed up all the way from ford drive to hamilton.
