sth wrong with my engine
hi, i was driving on 401 yesterday, suddenly, my temperture went up over the mid point on the temperture guage, i have no clue wat went wrong, so i slowed down, it went down, then went to accelrate, it went up again, this doens't happen all the time, but happens once in a while...so i was wondering any of you know wats going on or wat is wrong. thx
aslo, i know a auto timer is really for the cooling time for a turbo car, but other then dat...does it really do anything? would installing in a non turbo car do anything?
thx

make sure the thermostat is working, this can cause the car to overheat if its sticking.
make sure there is coolant in the radiator, & try bleeding the system with the bleeder valve, open it up, and let the air from the system
or
HEADGASKET IS F-U-B-A-R...

Before, you change your thermostat, did you confirm it was bad? There is no sense in replacing good parts. There are other things that could have caused this issue...is your rad fan working properly? This is just another thing that could be the problem...I haven't seen your car so, I can't tell you what's wrong.
About your other question, the auto timer for turbos is just for that. There is no advantage to have it for a non-turbo car. Why is it just for turbo cars?
Some backgroud:
The turbine, in a turbocharger is made as light as possible so, it has little inertia.
When a turbine is spinning, it can spin to about 30-40,000 RPM (or something high like that).
The turbine is spun from hot exhaust gases.
If an engine is turned off, the turbine can still be spinning at high speed...with no lubrication.
So, with an auto timer, the engine idles, allowing oil to flow to the turbine as it slows down.
Non-turbo cars don't have turbines so, you don't need to keep them running.
Make sense?
