you can smack the knuckle around the ball joint and hoep it comes loose you can get a ball joint fork (probobly will wreck it if it even works) or get a tie rod end puller (might wreck it might not)

or you coudl get 35 dallor ball joints and put new ones in like you should like I always did cause it was less headache tryign not to wreck a seized in old ball joint

This is the best way to do the lower ball joint...look for the post from "luserkid"

don't use the tie rod end forks. they'll kill the rubber boot and then the balljoint is gonna go bad real fast. smash the knuckle with a big 5 lb mini sledge, and it'll pop out. give it like 3-4 solid hits and it should come out.

no special tools needed... just a hammer. if you wanna get fancy, and make sure to separate the balljoint without damaging it, a nice 3 jaw puller works really well, esp the smaller 4 inch ones. I use them on the lower ball joint. the upper one, you just gotta hit the steering knuckle with the big hammer.

another method is you take the handle of the tie rod separator and place it between the lower control arm and the knuckle .. you might have to use a jack to raise the suspension up while you place it in there... then when you let the jack down while holding the handle in place it pops... works on 5th gens for sure.. I use this because I had an issue with not getting the ball joint out using Bruno's Method (Which does work well some times... unless they are being a pain in the ass...)

not sure there is enough room for that on a 4th gen Jason. but a good tip nonetheless.

I've never met a balljoint that didn't wanna come out at the sight of me. :) j/k actually I had a helluva time on the upper one on my ED3, but some torching action along with a beating of the hammer took care of it.

yeah it works on the 5th gens but thats where all my experience lies...

I beat on my driver side one for half an hoyur before I called someone and got told this other trick.

The handle...stick the handle right in there next to the boot if you don't have a rachet like that try something else...doesn't really matter...you are just limiting the amount the knuckle can move back so instead it pops up.

I think i tried steel tube , vice grips stacked on top of wrenches...sockets....play around with it ...it's not brain surgery once you are looking at it in person.
