squeeky brakes
 

Got lots of probs with my 98 Civic's brakes...front ones squeel like hell when I press the pedal.. I replaced them about a year or so ago so they are not work out. I asked a mechanic about it and he said that it is due to the ton of city driving I do and the brake dust building up.. He advised me to slam on the brakes a few times... I did that and they still squeel...The don't make a noise when I first start driving but after about 5-10 min, whenever I brake, they make noise...any thoughts?

The rear brakes are also making a squeeking noise when I LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL!! The same noise appears when I lift and lower the handbrake...seems like a squeeky handbrake cable...any thoughts on how to fix?

take your cheap ass pads and throw them in the garbage. go to Parkway Honda and pick up new rotors and pads for the front. Make sure you have disk brake quiet and antiseize handy as well. Service your front brakes.

For the rears, check to see what is making noise. Glazed drums will make noises... so that may call for new drums and shoes as well. Clean everything really well, and install new parts following the recommendations from the Helms manual. Follow up with a flushing and bleeding of the entire system. Your braking performance will return to as-new condition.

It just seems to me that you have inferior parts in there, and that they have glazed from a lot of city driving. Cheap parts don't do anyone any favours.

Sounds like el' Cheapo brand pads to me.
OEM Honda pads are the best for all around use.

Many aftermarket brands you get installed at your local Crappy Tire, Midas, Speedy... etc use "lifetime" brake pads, which means instead of your brakepads working and wearing out like their supposed to, they just eat up your rotors or drums

If you're a handy guy, buying new rotors and installing them yourself will be about the same as paying a shop to machine your existing rotors.

When was the last time your brakes were serviced?

im having the SAME exact problem with my 96.. sqeeky fronts and skweek when i let off the brake and use the hand brake...

my front pads are good and theres nothing in the back rattling around.. there was no one around to lift my e brake when i was looking at the rear brakes, but im guessing that is what it is...


definetly replace your rotors and pads in the front.. i already have a set of rotors and pads sittin in my living room straight from HONDA... and the rear.. im sure its just a cable... ill be checking that out very soon...

wellmine had the same problem too, and i had over half the pad life left... but due to spirited driving i glazed the pads over really badly.... got some oem honda pads and viola problem solved
