Squeek in the front end

i have a squeeking sound coming from my front driver side wheel. whenever i go over a speed bump or anything i can hear....i've searched around on here and i'm guessing it is my balljoint(s).

what would be the best way for me to find out if it is or not, cause there is upper and lower...then i also saw mention of tie rods.

i've never had to deal with these before so i'm kinda lost

i just had this problem. do you have a rubber gasket between your spring and the step on the shock. mine were gettin horrible, i had some rubber stock that i cut to fit around the shock and put it on last week. sounds perfect now. someone told me that they sell poly ones, but i havent been able to find them.

ok well i went out and checked around, pulled the tire off didn't really see too much. put the tire back on and then went and turned the stearing wheel from left to right and that is when the squeaking was the worst.

so maybe its not the ball joint?

squeeking usually indicates worn balljoints

thats what i thought but isn't a tie rod if the wheel moves left to right and a ball joint if it pushes in at the top and bottom? or something to that effect.

Im having the same problem as you are. Over the bumps or when the car is in idle and i turn the steering wheel either way i get the squeeking noise from the passenger side. I have a extra lower ball joint new so if it is that, ill replace that this week.

I wouldn't really wait that long, a ball joint isn't hard to replace if you have the right tools. There's no set time before it becomes loose because obviously its different on every car and depends on how you drive, etc.

I'm not too sure if the ball joint is if the wheel moves up and down.. but if you jack up the car and move the wheel or rotor side to side, up and down.. check out the components and see what moves.

write-up

you can rent that tool at parts source or crappy tire (the ball joint press tool)

edit: thats for a dodge I believe, but the same principals apply. It's not that tough. But you'll need a splitter
