Squeaky Belt noises

This is really annoying, happens only in cold days, what is it? Timing belt or alternator belt? I had the timing belt replaced last year april, I don't have AC and power steering. Thanks.
I added more coolant a month ago, now it's to minimum again, is my car burning coolant? I am too lazy...better get them checked ASAP...

I've got an 88 hatch with the same prob.. Only happens below -15C.. I think it's the Alt belt cause when mine starts to do it the lights start to go dim and whenyou rev it and squeel goes away the lights come back.. Rather annoying..

Sounds more like a squeaky water pump to me. I had the same problem, disappearing coolant and a squeaky noise that sounded like a belt or something, turned out to be the water pump. Take a look to see if there is any wet spots on the lower timing belt cover by the water pump (drivers side of the engine just above where the crank pulley is). My lower timing belt cover was soaked with coolant.
Not likely its a timing belt, but if your changing the water pump change the timing belt too.

your timing belt should not be squeeky at all. the belt has teeth on it which prevents it from slipping. if your timing belt was slipping you would have far greater problems then just a noise. if you are pos it is a belt then it is definately you alt belt. the cold temp causes the belt to be hard and slippy. this is why winter tires are made from such soft rubber.
there could possibly be a prob with your water pump. if you are leaking coolant and your not on top of it, you may be placing a strain on your water pump and cause it to burn out.

Yeah I have a similar problem. When I start up in really cold temps I get a constant high pitched screaming noise at certain rpm, about 1600 I think. I was thinking belt as well but I guess I'll check the water pump too.

try pullin the suspected belt off for a minute and see if the noise continues. Yeah, its ok to run the car without the alternator belt, if its only for a minute or two.

I'm here to help u out. 99.9% is your alternator belt because u don't have anymore belts other than the alt belt and the timing belt. Try putting some chalk on the belt to see if the squeal go away. If it does it is your belt or u can try spraying some wd-40 onto the belt. Not too much otherwise the belt will fall off. If it makes noise u have to replace it because the belt is glazed. If u don't see any signs of crack on the belt and u can live with the noise then why waste $$$. Other reason why your belt is making a noise if it's too loose or too tight. Most likely too loose. Tighten it might cause the squeal to go away.

For coolant leak see if there is a coolant leak on the ground. Put a card board or something underneath the car and leave it overnight. I'm sure u know that coolant is green for honda's so yeah. See where abouts is it coming from if there is a leak? If there is a leak go to a mechanic shop and tell them to pressure test it. They will find the leak for u. That should tell u what the problem is to your car.

I dunno how it could it.. It's perfectly fine in anything about -15.. Once it drops it comes back but as soon as the motors warm shes good to go.

Yes once the car warm up the noises go away.
I went to Honda today and bought some premixed coolant, fill up the reservior tank to half way to maximum...after going to timmies...it's lowered below minimum again...WTF??!! I don't see any leak on the ground...burned? How could it be the water pump? I changed timing belt and water pump last year april...PLZ enlighten me. Thanks.

Also when I turn on the rear defrost the RPM seems to drop a little and after a while it comes back, is it normal?

Well there are belts that drive the power steering pump and a/c pump, unless his car isn't equipped with these options.
Does your car smoke at all?
Try doing a compression test and or a leak down test.
Does/has your car overheated?

When u turn on your rear defroster your RPM decreases. That is normal because u are putting more load on the car. If u don't pressure test it, u won't know if it is leaking or not. It could be your coolant reservoir bottle that's leaking. Make sure that the rad is full of coolant that's all. Make sure not to open the rad cap when it is really hot. There should be a leak after u pressure test it unless it is internal. I doubt it is internal. I think u should bring it to a mechanic shop tomorrow because u do any damage to your thermostat and your engine.

The car overheated last season at Shannonville because of the OEM radiator for my engine, I changed it right away and never overheat again. The coolant disappearing has never happend in the summer, stupid winter.
Yes my car does smoke in the summer after taking out the cat, not too much smoke tho.
Why am I doing a compression test/leak down test? Thanks
