Spring Rates Question...

Hello,
I was wondering how much a given spring rate will affect the stiffness of the spring. The following is from a website (unsure of accuracy)

Lowering Springs Drop F/R (in inches) Spring Rates F/R (in lb/in)
Eibach Pro-Kit 1.40/1.00 457/171-257
Eibach Sportline 1.80/1.50 457/171-257
H&R OE 0.75/0.75 315/170
H&R Sport 1.80/1.80 340/186
H&R Race 2.25/2.00 400/285
Neuspeed Sofsport 0.75/0.75 340/230
Neuspeed Sport 1.80/1.80 340/230
Neuspeed Race 2.00/2.00 500/450
Suspension Techniques 1.00/1.00 354/149-180
Suspension Techniques Speedtech 2.00/1.80 425/215

I'm thinking of the Pro-Kit since I only want a small drop with stiffer springs, bacause my rims are 7.5" wide, they are all the way to the body allready, and i'm afraid of rubbing over bumps or while turning and bumps.

the rubber i had originally when i bought them was 205/50/15 and it rubbed over large bumps and onramps/offramps...

any ideas?

Go with the Pro Kit sam, it's a nice drop, not too much and there's still some room left for the wheels, atleast your car won't look lifted

YOOO where did u get those spring rate specs? i've been looking all over for them! are the last number in pounds...and the first number in kg/mm?? basically, i'd like to run 500lb rear and 350-400lb front for a track setup...none of those above spring rates is what i want

i dont think its correct....as u can see the Eiabch prokit is 457/171-257 but H&R Sport 340/186. but the H&R is definity mor stiff then the Eibach.

I think the Pro kit is prefect, but not sure of the stiffness, 457/171-257 is pretty stiff, it is even stiffer than H&R race 400/285. Where did you get these data, I would rely on them. But I still think that the pro kit is the best in terms of what you want, it is stiffer than OEM.

yea im thinking prokit too.. as long as it's not too much a drop and a fair amount stiffer than stock, i'm cool. otherwise, i'll have to sell my rims' cause they're too wide!

EK7: im not sure... i searched on google and i can't member the exact phrase i typed in. but it was within the first 20 or so hits i think.

hey sam, go with the h&r's sport, very nice drop and a lot stiffer then stock, what size tires you go on the rims now?

sam, go for the prokit if u don't want any rubbing problems, it's more expensive than the H&R but it's worth it. are u planning on getting bigger tires or rims?

I would look around on the internet for a good price. Check ebay. don't spend too much money on toronto shops, it's all ripe. All the shops here sell nuspeed springs for $350-$380. On ebay, brand new for $120-$280 CDN shipping is about $30-$40 CDN, I stopped buying stuff in Toronto now. Likewise, for many other things, so just look around first don't spend too much if you don't have too.

thanks for all the great info guys...

yea, i'll look into the prokit michelle, since i don't want a crazy drop.

darryl: i'm running 195/55/15 now, the rubber u had on there before (205/50/15?) rubbed like nuts on the drive home that day! every large bump i'd scrape one corner or the other!

EK7: i'll look into the ebay stuff. i guess im sorta scared for larger items that could get stolen etc.
