Spring Quality

What's the quality of those no-name coilover springs I see floating around for ~$100 on eBay and some performance shops?

Would you buy a 40oz of moonshine for $10 even though drinking it may make you go blind???

I agree with Bruno, but there will be others that say differently. Do a search. This is discussed almost weekly.

Thanks! Kind of guessed that, but I'll stick with the brands that popped up in the searches...

I'm not about to suggest that all coilover kits are created equal -- they're certainly not. But here's an interesting comparison. A buddy of mine actually had two different coilover kits for his Cavalier, one was Matrix (more or less considered one of the "economy" brands) and the other was a Skunk2 kit. Laid side by side there was virtually no discernable difference whatsoever. All the hardware, sleeving, everything was identical. There was a minor design difference in the front spring hats but we couldn't determine that it would make any functional or quality difference. It would be more difficult to judge the actual springs themselves, but they were both identical in design and wire diameter. So it makes you wonder if the premium brands are sometimes no premium at all!

Those are probably made out of plastics.... *ahem*

But ya, the way I see it, if I can't afford a good set of springs/shocks/coilovers, I won't have one at all. I rather drive stock then risk my car.

It is like, you want to drive a BMW 745 but can't afford it, so instead, you get yourself a BMW 318ti. For people who want the brand but cannot afford it.
