Spongy Brake pedal

Spongy Brake pedal
One of my front calipers was seized, so I replaced it. The mechanic blead the brakes too..Initially the pedal was ok when braking.. after about 15 minutes of stop and go driving, the pedal was very weak and the brakes would barely slow the car after the first few stops. I felt the pedal being kinda spongy, it wouldnt go to the floor though.. my friend said that when i compressed the caliper pistons sometimes air enters. It feels weak and is very uncomfortable in tight stops. The old brakes felt good. My friend said it is probably small deposits on the MASTER CYLINDER SEAL, causing poor pressure. I can only guess the MC and booster are as old as the car.
Should I bleed the brakes again ?
Has anyone else had a similar problem??
Also, I hear you have to bleed the brakes with the engine running ??

bleed the brakes again, and no you don't have to bleed them with the car running. if it still feels the same, then your master cyl is gone which is a common EF thing. I just replaced my master cyl. hot weather brings out common master cyl problems.

It wasnt happening until after I got my caliper replaced.

prolly coincidental.... but that's why I said to bleed them again... cuz bleeding is free as opposed to a $80 rebuilt master cyl

Did they guy bleed the brakes properly? Did he forgot to tighten the bleeder screw? If it's the master cylinder your pedal will go to the floor and u said that it wasn't like that before. If it's the brake booster u will hear like a hissing sound while u depress the brake pedal. It feels like air is coming out. Is the rear brakes adjusted properly too? I think there is still air trapped inside. Some cars if u do have ABS u have to turn the key on for 10 seconds and bleed it, and then turn the key off and back on again each time.

bleed the brakes, but also it could be the slider pins in the calpipers, that tends to do it too, also if you want to check the mc turn the car off, then push the pedal till its stiff, then put a measuering tape from the pedal or your foot because its on the pedal, then see how much it goes down in a certain amount of time. I cant remember the exact spec but somthing like 3-10mm in three min or somthing like that. consult the manual, but if was fine before the caliper, then its probably air in the line

that's what mine was like, it would be fine for some time, then it would start to sag.... for example if I was stopped at a light, the car would start to creep forward (auto tranny) and pushin the pedal more only made it sink further
