soon to be turbo b18c1

i have a kit sitting at home and just waiting to be bolted on, i just need the oil feed/return lines run and bigger injectors...it's set at 7psi with an internal wastegate. its already custom fitted for a b18 c1 in an ek... i have been doing some research on what kind of numbers i should expect... i found this dyno of a stock gsr, stock exhaust and etc with 10lbs of boost i believe...

does this seem realistic or close to what i could get? i am more interested in the torque it will make... how much torque would you need in an ek to really feel sucked back in the seat when the throttle is pushed? i am thinking like 180ft-lbs or so should do the trick?

seems like a nice power curve too, no drop-off at vtec crossover as well...

imported_360_vortex 04-Aug-2006 08:51 AM

possible...but not guaranteed cuz every motor is different....you need good tuning to reach that with 7psi with stock internals....

i sat in an eg hatch boosted with little over 200wtq....it pulled me pretty good.....with that being said, if you love torque that much, get a viper=P...yes i am serious, that's one mean torque machine

Nova_Dust 04-Aug-2006 08:58 AM

When I had my old setup, I thought I was pushed into the seat quite nicely haha. Well, maybe not....

I am sure you will get used to 180wtq quite soon, then you will want some more. There is no end to this.

hp numbers depend greatly on the tuner and your set-up.

If you listed your set-up you could get a very, very rough estimate since we don't know what condition your engine is in or who the tuner will be.

my boy had a bone stock b16, greddy kit, 8psi, 2.5" i/c piping, 2.5" dp flared to 3", 3" catback and he made 266whp and 18xwtq on a dynojet. to me 230whp & 179wtq for a turbo is weak sauce. there are b20v's making more hp than that and there are K24's out there making numbers very similar to the graph you posted. for me, i think i would need 350whp to be happy. because its not too hard to make 230whp all motor nowadays. its (n/a) expensive, and more reliable...but not hard.

why a viper?...because i sat in one and it pulled more than any other boosted civic out there....

zeeman 04-Aug-2006 07:31 PM

i agree with m_power (like always)....230whp out of a boosted GSR is weak sauce.
I've seen stock b16s make 350whp....mind you that prolly won't last too long b/c it was at almost 15psi.

Seriously mike, get your engine running tits before you put on your turbo setup, b/c that will only make troubleshooting even harder. And will increase the possibility of more problems/serious damage.

set-up is as follows: well, as much as i know i am not 100% sure what all the parts are called..

turbo set-up
-toyota supra ct 26 turbo 7psi internal wastegate
-2 1/2" downpipe
-2 1/2" charge piping/intercooler piping
-24" front mount intercooler (5-6" width)
-Turbosmart Vee Port BOV
-custom turbo manifold

engine/exhaust set-up
-stock gsr (compression tested... 215, 215, 210, 215)
-jdm s80 gsr LSD tranny
-2 1/2" straight pipe mandrel bent (rsr gt2 muffler)
-440cc injectors

not sure if i am missing anything important. Also, i am planning on getting zeeman to do the tuning if it can be arranged around when I get it installed.

imported_weiRtech 05-Aug-2006 07:35 AM

it isn't absolutely needed, but i'd recommend a 3" dp and exhaust if you are aiming at 200+hp. that turbo is used to putting out 225hp on the engine it came with from the factory.

imported_mikepasini 05-Aug-2006 09:15 AM

it might be a 3" downpipe, it looks bigger than the other piping, i just don't have anything to measure it... lets say its 3" for now.

chris_si98 05-Aug-2006 10:27 AM

im with aaron. Upgrade all your exhaust pieces to 3".. you'll get much better results.. especially with a ct26. Do you know what trim turbo it is?

imported_mikepasini 05-Aug-2006 11:19 AM

nope... what is it?

is the ct 26 a decent sized turbo? if i am using my current 2.5" as opposed to a full 3"exhaust setup including the downpipe what could my potential power diferences be. won't there be more lag in the spool up time if i am running 3"exhaust?

3" for sure, !!
this is a recent thread from honda-tech

2.5 crush bent vs 3 madrel bent, no other differences made

chris_si98 05-Aug-2006 01:33 PM

ya but mark thats at high boost levels..i know guys at around 200whp upgraded from 2.5" to 3" and they gained like 5-10whp. They said they couldn't even feel the difference.

But i would still upgrade to 3" because guaranteed, you will want more boost and better numbers.

Yes ct26 is a good sized turbo, from what i remember they came off the 88-91 mr2's and supra's right? And yes a 3" exhaust will help spool time
