some guys were doing this..

ok i was talking to a few friends, whom i always thought they knew their shiit...

they started to do this on all their cars...

buy cheapo coilovers and take the springs out and toss them...... then take OEM stock front springs and cut them short and put them in the coils....

they said they work awesome.....

but i know cutting coils off springs is bad... but im at a loss for words becuase these guys arent dumb

what do you guys think?

OK lets see u wanna stuff a V6 into a civic, spend all that cash, then complement that extremely difficult swap with factory cut springs mounted in chepo coilover brackets. Hmmmm do yourself a favour and think about what u just asked. Do u really think chopped factory springs are gonna perform well???

when I do go with coilovers myself I am buying cheap ones then tossing the springs however I plan on getting custom rated springs made for me...

There is no harm in trying. I say go ahead and feel the difference yourself.

You then can safely say that either it "works" or "it doesn't work" as oppose to some guy just jump on the topic and gives you a 100% no no.

cutting springs is a nono...nto to mention the stock spring rate isn't any good for lowering and real performance so in theory of everythign it's a dumb *** idea but does have a good idea behind it minus cutting springs and running stock shocks.... stick to springs that have the spring rates you want the quality you need and the drop you want and match a shock to it...

when it all comes down to it they are still cutting stock springs there is a good idea behind it but what gatherer said is way better use the perches with custom springs...and hope the perches aren't crap quality

the scene is "old" enough and big enough that most everything there is to try has been tried. case in point, there are ppl who mod aftermarket shocks for higher travel, which works real well, but it's based on good engineering principles. this is just a cockeyed idea to take stock springs and match them to cheap coilovers.

Look don't do something stupid just cause every one else is doing it . Let the stupid be stupid. I hope you have enough sense to not going around on cut springs. If you're going to buy springs put them to good use they are cheap

There is always a possibility they found a "sweet spot" and just keep hitting it. You should ride in or drive one of their vehicles, if possible see what its like

Custom made? Why don't you just buy Eibach ERS springs? Choose the correct height, spring rate and ID. Just a thought.
