sohc VTEC...can't feel it *READ* ENGINE BLOWN

On my 98 Si, d16y8...I can hear my engine goin into 'vtec' at around 5500-6000 rpms (never checked) but i feel ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...i can hear it slightly

anyways...no big deal

just wondering if theres anyway to 'revitalize' the vtec???

modifying ecu? taking the head off and checking the cam? vtec solenoid?

That's normal...the only thing you can do is swap for a DOHC VTEC.

I'd suggest cleaning the injectors out ... and reeing up the air flow ...you'll feel more punch then

when I first got my si I thought it was slow as ****, but after gutting the interior I was keeping up with tegs, passing accords and even had a tiburon V6 admiring my tail lights through 3rd.

I think the SOHC's are pretty quick if you know how to drive them right. that is, you can't just mash the pedal. I get good runs if I build up so I dont reach full throttle until 4.5k rpm (peak torque). kinda hard to explain but you probably already know what I'm talking about..

illmatic's right.

Stay in your powerband between 4-7 thousand and the car always boots. Can't expect much from 127hp.

first do a full tune up. then do what gatherer said(clean injectors or get new ones). It helped me out alot.

can you list all the stuff a full tune up consists of?

where did you get new injectors from?

air filter
fuel filter
plugs
wires
cap/rotor
coil
oil change
those are pretty much your basic things for a tune up, only expensive items are wires and coil, but those are rarly needed
just inspect your current wires for cracks etc other than that everything is strait forward do in your driveway in no time
hope this helps

ohhh yeah that too.

like Toyman said, after any mods that are linked to your computer, you should reset it by disconnecting the battery for what 10-15 minutes? 15 to be sure.(ie intake, headers, exhaust, tuneup, anything attached to sensors, etc.)

loudsubz has injectors for ya.

LIST
Oil change(regular)
air filter(replace or clean)
fuel filter(change)
injectors(clean or change)
plugs(NGK copper)
wires(OEM or NGK)

your car will thank you in the long run.

oh and you probably know this, but when I mentioned to stay in your powerband, I didn't mean 'always'. heh.

Take the resonator off your intake (the part down in your fender), and throw a K&N panel filter in there. Advance your timing a couple of degrees. Adjust your valves.001 or .002 tighter than factory spec.
Thos mods should give you 5hp.

I don't know about advancing the timing. a friend of mine tried it on his 99 si and now its all fucked up. he has a short ram and catback, my car is back to stock, and I pull on him in 3. he also said it degraded his fuel consumption

when you get your tune-up done, I'd also check out the cooling system. make sure the ratio is right (50% water). I got a good performance gain after I flushed my system.

oh, and use sunoco gas!

oh fuel filter, you can replace. It's like 25-30 new at um, cdn tire, or walmart, or um......as for replacing it...get a garage to do it, I think walmart changes it complete for 45 bucks or am I wrong, not sure? Don't pay more than 60 bucks to replace a fuel filter. One CDN tire said 120, the next day another advisor said 90, another location said 99 so don't trust em.

you can't clean your fuel filter I don't think. so get a new one if you wish. Injector cleaning is more important though(or getting new ones). The only reason you change fuel filter is if you run your gas tank down to empty often. In this case, you suck up a lot of dirt from the bottom of your tank, and your fuel filter catches this **** first. Last year, I was bogging and losing power one day and it got to the point where I had to pull over and bang on the filter to knock some dirt loose inside(replaced next day).

yeah replace fuel filter if you wish, and get injectors serviced(or replaced). It will restore alot of lost power.
