basically, it comes down to having more control over opening and closing of exhaust valves independent of intake valves.
So someone running Twin cams with identical lobe profile and OEM spec timing is really not harnessing the power of using two cams then.

well, not exactly, since the OEM specs differ between the two. Plus the combustion chamber can be better optimized for more efficient flow. it's not as simple as you make it out to be.

is there any benefits aside from cost of using sohc over dohc?? its hard to find free efficency that doesn't hurt somewhere else...

Well there are essentially only two variables to play with, the lift and duration of intake and exhaust valves no?

i'm not sure of the specifics of it but you can make the intake open sooner and the exhaust later kinda thing... which is impossible on a sohc can the intake and exhust valves are opened and closed by the same cam lobes

how about getting another camshaft customized for your application then?

well thats possible and you can get more lift and duration... but the points the valves start to open are still fixed you know? not sure how much you can gain by tuning them seperately though...

no, twin cam motors are different right from the get-go. Diff't casting block and head, different combustion chamber geometry... it's not just two variables to play with. That's where you're mistaken.

ok put this to rest...the dohc has mroe potential...for fuel efficiency, idle (with big cams), tuning, all while making good hp...you can make way better cams when your making one souly for the intake or exhaust side...not 1 cam that has both lobs...the end

To break is way way down for the morons out there it's liek this DOHC = better............ SOHC = GHAY!!...

I dunno Dingus.... I'd probably put it the other way around .....

SOHC can be just as potent I think .... I also think it was widely over looked as a platform because the DOHC engines honda has have larger displacement (for the most part) and therefore have more potential from that....

no replacement for displacement....

remember big V8's are making huge horse power and only using one cam....

yeah but a K series rotates the other way creating even more power because it goes with the rotation of the earth not against the rotation of the earth

the k series does even out the weight distribution so all the weight isn't on the drivers side front wheel
