So this is how it went...

So basically this is how it goes. My uncle took me to this shop where they have used engines from Honda, etc. From Japan and UDSM. So the D16Z6/D16Y8 they have, they said they are selling for $500 which sounds decent. Now it's like in a factory where all you see is engines...lol. Now should I go for it? I'm kinda hesitant because if I buy it what happens if it turns out to be crap.

Obviously I am going to bargain to the lowest price but I want your opinion on this. Something like this means I cannot do a leakdown test or compression test. I just have to ask some more questions like how much miles has it been on and etc.

This is the motor only.

OH and I will be calling some more places to see if they have any engines and for how much.

Anyone have any good places where they sell engines? Where can I look?

$500 for a d16z6 is a bad price.... i got a complete bottom end for free so spending $500 for a head seems kinda high... and if they wont let you do a compression test or anything your best to pay less from someone who would allow that.... unless you can get it for like $150-200 your best to look else where

and for a 93 you should avoid a d16y8 just cause its more wiring and really doesn't give anything over a d16z6 which is easier to work with

actually wiring is the same as a d16z6...just use all your stock components like distributor etc so u dont have to wire it all up for the new one...unless yours is shot or whatever...also u can leave whatever sensors off the motor that your car dont need...not too sure about 5th gens and stuff but a d16y8 into a 4th gen is no different that doin a stock swap with the addition of vtec (use same injectors, distributor etc)

also, that is a horrid price...get a jdm d15b for the same price

500 bucks is a bad price for the whole motor? This is the whole motor. This is not just a head or anything. This is a whole darn motor which will be swapped.

I forgot the name but its near Norfinch...

I haven't actually asked about a leak test, etc yet. I just said I will think about it...lol. What I tried to mean was that how can i do a compression test when the whole engine is not hooked up to anything? Doesnt it need to be powered up to do this?

I hear that JDM motors and low mileage are deceptive. The fact that they are based in Japan where driving takes a long time and spends a long time in idle makes the abuse greater than engines in the USDM market.

I dunno about the JDM d15b...Gotta check on that. Is that the same thing as a D16Z6?

leak down tests are easy if iyt has a starter conectede too it just bring a batery and some wires.... and your gauge of course

anyways most engine importers just have shelves and shelves of engines in a warehouse setting
