SIR Shocks with H&R Springs
 

Although i havent made up my mind about this setup for my car but i was just wondering what do u guys think of this combination.

after browsing the suspension forum here...i gathered that the SIR shocks are a bit firmer than the regular EK ones. one thing that most ppl say and i sort of agree that stock shocks blow eventually on lowering springs.

I am thinking of lowering the sedan with H&Rs. One option might be is to go with SIR stock shocks but i dont know this is a straight swap or not. in another thread...i read that the fork in the front on regular EKs is wider than the SIRs so it wont fit....

what do u guys think...is it worth a try?

the car is a daily driver..with under 1000Kms per month...i mostly drive to the GO station and back during weekdays...lol

nah, get aftermarket suspension...

SIR shocks can only handle so much travel once u lower it.. since stock was made to handle this much amount of TRAVEL...
{------------------} for example...

when u lower it... it will only have
{--------} this much travel making it useless... in no time u will blow the seal and your back ass will do the HOP!

this is my current setup now on my 00 sir - works fine

h&r SPORTS springs, 1.75"f, 1.5"r

they seem fine, but if you are picky about ride quality and control... i am more into control and the way i drive, i usually push it pretty hard when it comes to cornering and such... when you have lowering springs with a higher spring rate then you shocks your ride will feel unblanced and maybe a little harsh...

for example... you hit a bump, the suspension compresses and then as your shock is starting to absorb the compression, your springs is already on its way back out... i don't exactly know how to explain it... if you had properly tuned suspension or some better quality gas shocks they can deal with that compression rate so when the spring starts the lenthen out again they will be traveling at the same rate giving it uniform travel and the ride harshness will be gone...

easier explanation... sit in Bryce's midori ek and he has goldline 2" and stock shocks or some better quality ones, but still OEM specs... if you tire drops over a large bump, its almost like wheel bounce when you tire slaps against the ground, its like the shocks can't handle when the spring pushes back out... anyone else out there with me one this?

i have h&r race right now with kyb agxs... and if the agxs are set to like 3 (of 4) in the front and the back to 6 (of 8) the ride is prretty comfortable for like a 3" or whatever it is drop.

DO NOT ride stock shocks on lowered springs. I have H&R race's and rode on stocks for a bit. Jouncy and bouncy as hell. Upgraded to Koni red's (low budget) and they have been awesome. PLus you might get a blown shock, and that sucks

I have the AGX's too with Tein's S.Tech springs.

I'm running 2 front 4 rear.

SIR shocks are abit firmer, but we are talking peanuts. SIR springs are only 30lb more then normal SI springs, and it dosen't take much extra effort to dampen 30lbs.

I'd go with aftermarket shocks such as KYB AGX or if you can afford it, Tokico Illumina. I had H&R Sport with Illuminas on a 1.6EL and the ride was great. Even my old man couldn't believe how smooth and comfy the ride was on a car that was lowered.

Stock shocks will take it, but they could go in weeks, they could go in years. Just because 1 person gets 2 years on stock, dosen't mean they will last that long for you.

Don't forget the alignment too afterwards.

I can vouch for that. I bought his shocks/springs off of him and have them in my Integra. The ride is awesome. Nice and comfortable.

I find thst most of the times when people put coilovers on stock shocks they blow quick. With srpings such as h&rs, nuspeed srpots ect...they are fine. Eventualy after a long period of time they most likly will blow but should be fine for now. My buddy have Nuspeed spoorts on his SiR with stock shocks for over 2 years now, no problems.

thanks guys for your comments so far....i think there will always be these two schools of thought...to stay stock or go aftermarket.

actually...my intention was to do an experiment...stock SIR shocks with a used set of H&R sport springs..since quiet a few ppl have this going in their cars...the shocks come cheap ($70-$80) plus a used set of springs will be no more than $150...

i dont want to save money by doing this...its just that i might get myself a new car in a year's time so dont wanna spend a whole lot on a totally new and upgraded setup. i may not even drive lowered during the winter also....i just wanted something for a relatively short term...

overkill....that setup you are talking about is exactly what i had in mind as the second/proper option...illuminas with H&Rs. if this one doesnt work out...lol...im going with the one you mentioned.

do it once, do it right... you dont wanna go back in there to do something you could have avoided... i learned the hard way but im happy wit my h&r races and the yellows... pretty comfy ride compared to my cheap sleeve coilovers wit stock shocks lol

If its only for a year, go with H&R on stock bro. If your keeping the car longer, do it right Illuminas with the sports.

i agree... it won't be bad at all, just not the best.

if you are selling it though, who cares

little over an year, and i have neuspeed, on stock shocks exact same car as you, not a single problem so far. rides nice on the street

Salman, you already know my thoughts. Do it right once or don't do it at all. If you want to do the suspension, do it right and put in at the very least an adjustable shock and a lowering spring. If you can't justify the cost then stick with stock height.
