SI:SOHC vtec tranny question?
I have a friend that has and 1994 dx (SOHC non-vtec) and he wants to swap for an SI block. So I told him to do it b/c he does not want to spend alot of money. I figure he can keep his tranny with the Vtec motor (automatic). Is the auto. in the DX the same as SI? Some people say that the torque converter can't take more horsepower.

It'll be okay as long as he doesn't really abuse it. But if he is swapping, he's prolly gonna abuse it, so figure on having to ditch the tranny by about end of summer next year. This is depending on current condition of course. Also, to prolong tranny life, I recommend an oil cooler for the tranny.

he only wants the block?!?!
what is the use of that..or did u mean his bottom end is gone and he just needs a new bottom end...if that's the case...why not get the entire si engine? and if that's what ur asking, then the tranny will be fine with it. i bet the dx auto is the same as the si auto tranny anyways. why would honda make another tranny just for another car of the same series engine?
