should i do turbo?

i have a b16a2 in my car right, a 89 hb si, and i was wondering if it wirth putting turbon in it. i really like my car being fast and the sound, pssssss! so how much would it cost for one?

imported_Zyepher 17-Apr-2005 02:55 AM

Is it worth putting in your car? well thats a option you choose, if your chosing it just for the "psssss!" to show off the timmies boys y0! then NO....You have to think wether you want to go through with turbocharging your vehicle and costs and etc btw...S-E-A-R-C-H...it will help you because there are tons of threads on turbos

imported_ERTW 17-Apr-2005 09:46 AM

financially it's not worth it

if you have money to waste and want to have fun and deal with a few more problems in your life, then yes, it is worth it

budget from a couple to a few g's, depending how particular you like to be about things

imported_kIeRaN 17-Apr-2005 10:04 AM

dont do it, save your money :) wish i had

i think that you need to research quite a bit more.
Boostin a car that already has a CR of 10.2:1 is iffy. If you just plan on boostin 6-8psi then its ok, but whats the point?
A good, reliable, powerful turbo setup will cost upwards of $4000 easily. Allow 1/3 of your budget for tuning.....tuning is key.

imported_b16turbohatch 17-Apr-2005 02:12 PM

to do it properly set aside $10,000. or dont do it at all.

I think that statement will make him **** himself  ..buhaha

Dr.K 17-Apr-2005 02:40 PM

Definetly worth it. But don't cheap out on the Fuel management and Spark Requirement's. If you spend a good $4000 you'll have a realiable set-up that can be used and abused everyday. You can do a Turbo set up for half that but you'll be skimping out on saftey precaution's. Its your engine you decide.

imported_darknitehonda 17-Apr-2005 05:39 PM

ok thanx guy for the replies...but ithink im going to hold up on the turbo for now! 4000 maybe 10000....lol.....not ready for that doe to be dished out!

SiR_88crx 17-Apr-2005 06:52 PM

lol ya save ur money

imported_zhu 17-Apr-2005 07:17 PM

junk yard turbo + some good tuning
you'll get quite a bit more reliable power

junk yard turbo will cost u like 800 or something.. and then just invest another 500 and get it well tuned

you don't need to dish out 4000 or 10000 (<-- wtf) for a reliable turbo

imported_SaYjAiBaO 17-Apr-2005 07:22 PM

10000 for a turbo setup?! what kinda setup is that?! but i plan to do this route too. run an LS swap then turbo that b*tch!. :D

lol is that what u paid for your setup.....lol didnt u run like a 14.7 at the track....

Allow 1/3 of your budget for tuning.....tuning is key.
I 100% agree.

Worth adding turbo if your engine has 150,000km? Or engine swap?

zeeman 17-Apr-2005 11:33 PM

yup. Like i said before tuning is key. With a properly tuned engine running 10 psi bone stock is not abusing it. When tuned its acts as if it was boosted from the factory....without, or with crappy tuning or cheap methods of tuning (FMU and retarding timing at dizzy) then you are asking for trouble.
Do it right the first time so that you don't have to spend $10,000 doing it.
Don't laugh....$10,000 is not at all unrealistic. Think....$4000 for the turbo kit, $5000 building as engine that can see 20psi and laugh at it, and $1000 for tuning (hondata plus dyno/wideband o2 time) theres $10,000 if not more easily. But you gotta pay to play.

imported_Dawson 17-Apr-2005 11:52 PM

i didnt laugh at the price i believe it im just saying if he`s running 14.7 in the 1/4 mile thats not really that great but i was basically laughing at how markpa was just saying it

Dr.K 18-Apr-2005 12:37 AM

we can argue this all day......it all come's down to this...
Speed cost's money. How fast do you want to go?

imported_SaYjAiBaO 18-Apr-2005 12:48 AM

i don't think he wants to drive a daily driver with 20psi . a stock motor rebuilt to factory specs will last quite a while on low boost. no more than 8psi that is.
