Short shifter vibration
Got my shifter installed on my 93 coupe si this weekend. So much better than stock. Highly recommended, if you don't have one.
Thing is, a vibration at certain frequencies is really humming the crap out my Momo shift knob. Checked the knob in all its variants -- tight, not so tight, damn loose, lubed the screws, just about everything. Is it the 'dreaded hitting the heat shield' as one article puts it? Love the shifter, hate the vibration. I'll take it back tomorrow to get it checked out. What a pain! If they can't do anything, I guess I'll wait for Scott to check it out when he does my springs this week. Any ideas, suggestions, advice greatly appreciated. Cheers! |

If you use'd the bushing kit that came with the shifter or bought one like the B&M shifter bushing kit, it's made out out of metal where as the factory one is made from rubber. That's why you would get the metal rattling sound now and not before. If it's that ennoying just put the factory rubber bushing's back on, but it won't be as tight.

Many thanks for the reply. Some have suggested urethane bushings -- no noise, still precise shifting.
So probably bushings or heat shield. Easily fixed, I would think. Thanks. |
what is it you would like to fix?
if it' the rattle then tighten the bolt to the point you can't move the shifter make sure they didn't put a bearing on the right side of the shifter if they did then it will push it over and hit the midpipe but what do i know i'm just cluster |

My vibration/rattle/annoying@#$%^& noise is intermittent. Yesterday it was gone, today it's baaaaack! From all the responses/emails/PMs it's either the heat shield (which, as you say, is easily removed) or the bushings. Still unsure what the 'bushing' is. The shifter came with two small brass rings. Not sure if they are the bushings or the two plastic pieces I purchased separately from the shifter (the guy told me to replace the OEM ones and the shift would feel better). Maybe these two plastic pieces are the bushings:) Newb mode off! Thanks again. |
