Short Shifter Problem

Could a loose shifter which makes a rattle/vibrate a high rpm's be caused by not buying one of those aftermarket bushings? Cause I have a skunk2 short shifter and its really loose / allot of free play and if u don't touch it will driving when it gets to high speeds/rpm it starts to vibrate and rattles against something. Anyone know why?

It could be rubbing against your exhaust, causing it to vibrate/rattle when the exhaust moves.

do you have stock exhaust?

as far as I know....a skunk2 SS hits against stock exhaust which is what will cause that ratteling.

I dont have the skunk 2, but I fixed mine from rattleing by inserting rubber spacers where the bolt connects the shifter to the linkage...cuz the shifter had a little bit of play in the linkage, so it was vibrateing against the linkage...Also I have heard that some of the skunk SS do vibrate against the exhaust..

get under the car...
check the play on the shift linkage, see what it's hitting or what it could be hitting...
if nothing...
then check to see if the short shifter itself is too loose in the linkage, where it could be vibrating back and forth (use Boostzex's solution for this)
